Tomodachi Life is always very, very A strange series that revels in the absurd and the ridiculous, creating games you won't find anywhere else. Living the Dream proved to be no different. The idea is to use the entire island to unleash an army of freaks and see how they react to each other.
If you're one of the more general Tomodachi Life fans, you'll probably use this game to recreate many of your friends and family members, giving you an emotional connection to the island from the beginning. However, previous Tomodachi Life games had the unpleasant consequence of two members of the family falling for each other and getting hurt in the process.
You could set up your Mii to have a family relationship with a specific character, but you couldn't change other characters you added, so there was always the possibility that your Mii's version of your father would be connected to your Mii's version of your sister. huh…
Thank you God. If you dream, romance between family members will be hindered.
Thankfully, that doesn't seem to be the case with Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. In a recent preview of VGC (which you can read here) it was explained that relationships between all Miis can be established. If you want to make one character the father of another, you can do so, and it will cut off any potential romance the two could engage in.
What's more, VGC has revealed that children's romances can also be stopped entirely, so there are other 'dating preferences' that can put an immediate stop to awkward romances. Of course, you can allow your kids to date each other, but you also have the option to turn dating off entirely if your kids want to play the game themselves.
Naturally, Tomodachi Life fans are very excited about this news. Especially since this system also means you can force certain Miis to actually become romantically attracted to each other. For example, the Tomodachi Life subreddit has people saying things like “My dream has come true!! The prophecy has been foretold!”, while another user is delighted that “My cousin's mii will finally stop asking if he can date his sister.”
Personally, I think the more options a game has, the better, and if you can actually establish relationships with Mii's before adding them to your island, it will make it much easier to sculpt things just the way you want them. It's a big change that Tomodachi Life fans have been wanting for a long time, and now we can all play as sisters without fear of them getting into problematic relationships with other brothers.
