CS:GO returns to Steam as a separate download after two and a half years. When Counter-Strike 2 launched in 2023, Valve decided to assimilate CS:GO into it to avoid splitting the fan base. This had a negative impact on the community as it also resulted in the game's achievements being removed.
Now it looks like CS:GO is once again a separate downloadable app on Steam (thanks, Game Follower). But there's a problem. You won't be able to search for the game on Steam, as the page has a note that says “At the publisher's request, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is not listed on the Steam store and will not appear in searches.”
CS:GO is once again available for download on Steam.
The game won't show up in searches, but it has a separate page and is also available for download. But if you want to recapture the accomplishments of years ago, I have bad news. Unfortunately, many features, including online components such as matchmaking, are currently inactive. Valve has maintained its trademark silence about why this is happening.
But that didn't stop fans from celebrating. Many are hoping that the game will get a separate license, leading to community servers and without any of CS2's baggage. That would be nice, but it's not in Valve's interest to re-release CS:GO that way. A major part of the community will be making the jump from CS2.
It's likely that Valve will restructure the backend, leading to a separate download for CS:GO. However, if you decide to get CS:GO up and running properly, you can expect a massive player migration from CS2.
