Critical Role already has plans for life without its OG cast.

Critical Role's Campaign 4 has been received quite well by fans of the show, despite all the big changes that have been made recently. Not only does the show have a whopping 13 members, including a mix of new and old faces, but this time it's Dungeon Master Brendan Lee Mulligan at the helm instead of the trusty Matt Mercer.

It's still pretty good, but it's a little different than what Critical Role fans are used to, and it turns out there's a very good reason for that. We all wish we had the power of immortality, but in reality, people get older and quit the project after a while. Considering how character-driven Critical Role is already preparing for life without its original cast, plans are already in place to incorporate new names and faces into the show.

In an interview with Business Insider (thanks Popverse), Ed Lopez and Ben Van Der Fluit, Critical Role's Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Business and Content Development, eventually moved on to the topic of Critical Role's future and cast. Lopez explains that his and Van Der Fluit's mission is to extend the “life of the business” while understanding that the current cast “can't do this forever.”

It's my job and Ben's job and Travis' job to figure out, 'Hey, we can't do this forever, we've got to figure out a way to make this business sustainable.'

He also says that Critical Role fans will see more projects outside of what the original cast has built, such as a video game that Dispatch developer AdHoc is currently working on, and that appealing to younger audiences outside of Twitch and YouTube is an important element of the business now. That's probably why we're seeing so many new faces now.

But that doesn't mean Critical Role's current cast will be going anywhere anytime soon. Jokingly, Lopez later said, “If they want to stream until they're 80, we'll do that.” So while it sounds like there's no rush to move people on, don't be surprised if you start to see more new people jumping in.
