It looks like the war between Battlefield and Call of Duty may already be over, as Black Ops 7 managed over 10% of Battlefield 6's launch player count on Steam.
There's no bigger competition in gaming than Battlefield and Call of Duty. At one time, both EA and Activision's flagship series were some of the biggest games in the world, but it's fair to say that Call of Duty's more casual appeal meant it always had a slight edge over Battlefield's hardcore style.
It's been a long time since Battlefield and Call of Duty faced off. BF has been in hiding since 2042, no doubt after losing the fight against Vanguard. 2025 would finally see the two FPS titans rematch, but it was very clear to everyone who would come out on top. This solidifies Black Ops 7's release number on Steam.
Battlefield 6 launch player count on Steam Eclipses Black Ops 7
Even Game Pass may not be enough of a good argument this time around.
As we reported a few days ago, Black Ops 7's release numbers (at least on Steam) are a bit muted for a new Call of Duty release. It's now been a few days since Black Ops 7 launched, but according to SteamDB, player count across Call of Duty is at its highest in the last 24 hours, at 87,882.
Those numbers are sure to increase slightly over the weekend, but for now, Black Ops 7's launch has been surprisingly weak. Compare that to Battlefield 6, which had a whopping 747,440 players on launch day, and you can see just how one-sided the battle was. As of this writing, Black Ops 7 has reached just over 10% of the player count that Battlefield 6 launched at.
Of course, there's the Game Pass elephant to consider, as many players will likely be playing Black Ops 7 on consoles other than Steam. The numbers haven't been released yet, but overall it's unlikely to tip the scale that much. Battlefield 6 also It released on several other consoles other than Steam and still garnered record-breaking numbers on those platforms.
We'll have to wait and see if Activision releases numbers for Black Ops 7 in the coming days. But for now, it's clear that the majority of Steam players are on Battlefield 6's side this time around. In fact, Battlefield 6's player count on Steam still surpasses Black Ops 7, hitting a peak of 271,307 in the last 24 hours alone.
