BioShock 4's former narrative lead Liz Albl has moved to CD Projekt Red. This comes after layoffs hit Cloud Chamber due to development issues with BioShock 4.
Liz Albl joined CD Projekt Red during the development of its two highly anticipated sequels, Cyberpunk 2 and The Witcher 4. Both games appear to be doing well, and CDPR already showed off a tech demo for The Witcher 4 earlier this year.
BioShock 4 loses lead in layoffs
As spotted by IGN, Albl was fired after nearly three years in BioShock, but now works as a lead writer at CD Projekt Red. This means she'll likely be working on either Cyberpunk or The Witcher. Although The Witcher is ahead and released first, so that's likely.
We don't know what's going on behind the scenes in BioShock 4, but things are definitely not looking good. Bioshock 4 was announced in 2019, and now, six years later, there's nothing to show for it. All we know is that it's being developed by Cloud Chamber, a 2K studio founded in 2019 to work on BioShock 4.
But development has not progressed to Take-Two's standards, with an internal review failing earlier this year. It appears that a significant number of executives are involved, as studio head Kelley Gilmore was also ousted.
Despite all this, Take-Two insisted that BioShock 4 was still in development. There's no telling when it will be released as the publisher doesn't even have a release window for us, but given the leadership shake-ups and layoffs, it's likely going to be a few years before we're ready to play.
The last BioShock game was BioShock Infinite, released in 2013. In other words, it's already been 12 years since there was a BioShock game, and the only way to fill the gap was to re-release it in 2016 with BioShock: The Collection.
Meanwhile, former BioShock lead Ken Levine is developing his own game, Judas. Likewise, it was expected to be released already but we are still waiting for it because it is nowhere to be seen.
