There are two spell types in Elden Ring, sorceries and incantations, with different stats required for each type.

Flame spells are some of the most powerful magic in the game. Players looking to create a pyromancer build or have an effective spell at the ready, the best in the game are incantations. Fire spells comprise a large part of the incantations in Elden Ring, with different types of flame offering different effects. From madness-inducing frenzied flame to the hemorrhaging bloodflame or Godskin Black Flame, flame incantations can be effective tools against Elden Ring’s enemies.

Roiling Magma

A Strong Spell if Used Correctly

The Magma Sorceries of Mt Gelmir are unique spells in Elden Ring as they require players to boost faith and intelligence. While most flame magic falls under the incantation category, these flame spells are useful attacks that are perfect for sorcerers to use.

Roiling Magma
can be a tricky spell to use correctly, as directly hitting a target will lessen the spell’s effectiveness. Players fire a ball of magma at the ground, which, after a delay, will explode, creating several magma patches in the area. This can be an effective spell against groups of enemies or slowing larger bosses. Roiling Magma can be found on a corpse in Hermit’s Shack, in the Mt Gelmir region.

Flame Of The Fell God

A Dangerous Delayed Attack

Flame of the Fell God
costs a lot of FP to cast but deals a large amount of damage to unsuspecting foes. It also requires significant points in faith. However, this effective spell has a long delay and is best used strategically.

With Flame of the Fell God, players summon a floating ball of fire, which moves toward the enemy slowly, finally exploding into a shower of flame. This isn’t a quick spell to use, but if timed right, can be a useful tool. The long delay will give the player time to perform additional attacks before the spell is finished. Players can find this spell early in the game in the Liurnia of the Lakes region, after defeating Adan, Thief of Fire in an evergaol.

Flame Cleanse Me

Burn Away The Poison & Rot

For certain areas in the game, Flame, Cleanse Me
is one of the most useful spells in Elden Ring. It can make areas such as Caelid and the Lake of Rot easier to explore, as it is the most effective way of healing Scarlet Rot. With its low FP cost and low stat requirements, Flame Cleanse Me is a good spell to always have memorized.

Players will find this incantation early in the game in the Liurnia of the Lakes region. It is found on a corpse in a Fire Monk camp, southeast of the Church of Vows.

Bloodflame Blade

Enhance Weapons With Hemorrhaging Bloodflame

Players will find this incantation on a Teardrop Scarab near the Rose Church in Liurnia of the Lakes. The Bloodflame Blade
is a useful spell to have as it buffs the player’s right-hand weapon with festering bloodflame. This effect causes burn damage to enemies as well as blood build-up when hit repeatedly. This effect will cause the enemy to hemorrhage, dealing even more damage.

The incantation is especially useful for dexterity builds, who need to inflict quick damage on enemies. The incantation lasts longer than other similar spells and is quick to cast, making it very effective in boss fights. This spell can be additionally buffed with the Fire Scorpion Charm.

Gelmir’s Fury

A Powerful Short-Range AOE

• Requires: Intelligence 28, Faith 15

Another of the Magma Sorceries developed at Mt Gelmir, this powerful spell can be obtained through Recusant Bernahl by completing his request. After completing the second assassination mission in the Volcano Manor storyline, Knight Bernahl will offer the player a letter and ask for aid. After completing the battle against Vargram the Raging Wolf, and Errant Sorcerer Wilhelm, players will be rewarded with the spell.

Gelmir’s Fury
is an effective spell against groups of enemies that have surrounded the player. While good timing is always needed when casting spells close to enemies, Gelmir’s Fury can kill large groups quickly. Magma bursts from the ground, spreading out in a cone and dealing damage in a large area. While other AOE spells have a wider range, Gelmir’s Fury is a strong choice for intelligence builds.

Magma Shot

Useful Flame Attack for Sorcerers

Another of the unique Mt Gelmir Magma Sorceries, Magma Shot
is a useful addition for sorcerers to add to their library of spells. Effective against enemies that are weak to fire, Magma Shot is a simple spell that fires a lump of magma at enemies that explodes on impact.

Players will receive this spell from Tanith after completing the first assassination in the Volcano Manor storyline. While the spell is ideal for sorcerers, it also requires 10 in faith, which many intelligence builds may not have leveled up. Magma Shot may have a short range, but its strong flame attack is an effective weapon for sorcerers looking to deal fire damage to enemies.

Dragonfire

A Powerful Early Spell

Dragonfire
is one of the first Dragon Communion spells players can acquire in the game and is a powerful spell for faith builds. Casting the spell, players summon a large dragon’s head that breathes fire at enemies. While later Dragon Communion spells deal higher damage, this early version is an effective weapon against many enemies.

To get Dragonfire, players must first acquire a dragon heart and complete either the Coastal Cave, leading to the Church of Dragon Communion, or make their way to the Cathedral of Dragon Communion in Caelid. Here, they can purchase the spell from the burning altar.

Agheel’s Flame

Engulf Enemies In A Wave Of Fire

Throughout Elden Ring, players will find a variety of dragon bosses, all using different breath attacks. Agheel is the first of these encounters players will come across very early in the game. Defeating Agheel will unlock this powerful incantation at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion.

Agheel’s Flame
is the archetypical dragon attack. The player rises from the ground and breathes a torrent of fire, engulfing enemies unlucky enough to be in front of them. While this attack is powerful, it requires good timing, as the spell can be canceled if the player is hit. It also has a significant FP cost, so it is best used as an opening attack or finishing a boss on low health.

Ghostflame Breath

Elden Ring’s critically acclaimed DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, is packed with new enemies, new weapons, and new spells. One of the first major enemies players will encounter when exploring the Land of Shadow is the Ghostflame Dragon. There are three of these enemies scattered across the DLC, with each one presenting a tough challenge for players.

However, defeating these skeletal enemies is not required to access Ghostflame Breath
. This powerful Dragon Communion incantation allows players to summon the head of a Ghostflame Dragon, which spews forth a wave of ghostly fire. In addition to the magic damage this spell inflicts, enemies will also receive frost build-up when attacked. Players will need three Dragon Hearts to acquire this spell from the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion.

Black Flame

With its low FP cost and quick use, Black Flame
is the ideal fire spell for attacking the many enemies of Elden Ring. While not the most powerful fire spell, Black Flame deals significant damage to low-level enemies and works well as a go-to attack.

With this incantation, players throw a black-colored flaming fireball at enemies, which continues to deal fire damage for a short time after. Players will find this spell after finding the Godskin Prayerbook in Stormveil Castle and giving it to either Brother Corhyn or Miriel, Pastor of Vows. Charging this attack increases the damage and causes the ball to explode on impact, potentially killing more enemies.

Midra’s Flame Of Frenzy

Spread Frenzied Flame

This powerful spell is best used with a high FP level. Casting the spell summons the Frenzied Flame above the player, which spills forth flame tendrils randomly at enemies. In short bursts, this spell does minimal damage. However, by holding down the input, the spell will continue as long as the player’s FP holds out.

While doing this will cause madness in the player, gangs of enemies can be quickly dispatched with this barrage of Frenzied Flame. To acquire this spell, players must first defeat Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame, in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Doing so rewards the player with the Remembrance of the Lord of Frenzied Flame, which can be exchanged for the spell.

Frenzied Burst

Sniper Enemies At Long Range

Frenzied Burst
is a powerful attack that allows the player to shoot a beam of frenzied flame directly at an enemy. While this attack causes madness build-up in both the player and the enemy, the amount is small and will not affect the player significantly. This attack is a perfect long-range spell for faith users. Players can pick enemies off from a distance without them ever realizing.

This incantation comes from the Frenzied Flame, an outer god that brings chaos and madness to the world. These unique flame spells are effective against a variety of enemies, but all inflict madness on the player. This spell is found in the Liurnia of the Lakes region, dropped by a Teardrop Scarab. It is close to the Church of Inhibition in an area inflicted with madness.

Black Flame Ritual

Summon A Wall Of Powerful Black Flame

This impressive Black Flame
incantation is very effective for groups of enemies. When surrounded, the player can summon a ring of black flame that deals burning damage to anything that passes through. While enemies inside the ring will not be affected, the spell can be cast quickly, ensuring any approaching foes will soon feel the heat.

This is an ideal incantation for the late game. Its high damage and fast cast time make it one of the best fire incantations in Elden Ring. Players will find this spell in the Mountaintop of the Giants region within the Spiritcaller Cave. Players will need to defeat the Spiritcaller Snail at the end of the area, which summons both a Godskin Apostle and a Godskin Noble.

Bloodboon

Rain Bloodflame On Enemies

Bloodflame is an effective magic type that inflicts both flame and bleed damage on enemies. With the Bloodboon
incantation, players summon the power of the Formless Mother, one of the many outer gods, and spray bloodflame on the ground. In addition to the fire damage, enemies caught in the flames will eventually hemorrhage, dealing even more damage.

This is a dangerous spell for slow-moving enemies, who will struggle to get out of the area of effect. However, this incantation is not easy to get, as it requires defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood, who is a tough boss. Defeating this enemy will reward the player with the Remembrance of the Blood Lord, which can be exchanged for Bloodboon.

Bayle’s Flame Lightning

Shadow of the Erdtree has given players one of the best Dragon boss fights in FromSoftware’s history. Bayle the Dread is a spectacular and challenging encounter that will test players’ skills time and again. It also included some of the most memorable NPC lines ever delivered in a Soulsborne game, with the inclusion of Igon.

Defeating Bayle will reward players with the Heart of Bayle, which can be exchanged for one of the most powerful spells in the game. Bayle’s Flame Lightning
summons the giant talon of the dragon, which smashes into enemies, dealing high amounts of damage. This incantation is unique as it has both lightning and flame elements. The spell can easily break an enemy’s stance or kill them outright. However, in boss battles, good timing is required to successfully cast the spell. Unfortunately, the spell requires high arcane, which many players may not have.

Burn O Flame!

Burn Multiple Enemies With Powerful Flames

With Burn O Flame! players place their hands on the ground and summon several pillars of fire that deal large amounts of damage. This effective spell can also knock enemies to the ground. Burn O Flame! works very well against groups of enemies. It can be cast quickly and has a good area of effect around the player.

In boss fights, the incantation can be very powerful, as each pillar of flame deals damage, meaning larger enemies can get double the damage. Burn O Flame! is as fun to use as it is effective, as multiple enemies are sent flying to the ground. Players can get this incantation after beating the Fire Giant and receiving the Remembrance of the Fire Giant.

Fire Serpent

A Powerful Attack in the Tarnished’s Arsenal

Found in Elden Ring’s DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, in the Shadow Keep, this useful spell is an excellent weapon against single enemies. Casting the spell, players summon a ball of flame, which, after a delay, fires at the target. The spell is useful as it can be set up from a distance, and if no enemy is locked on, it will fire at the closest onscreen target.

Fire Serpent
is one of the most useful incantations players can use, as it tracks enemies wherever they go. Messmer’s Fire Knights will regularly bombard players with Fire Serpent as they explore the Shadow Keep.

Messmer’s Orb

Shadow of the Erdtree has introduced several new spell types to the already impressive library of magic. Messmer’s Flame Incantations are some of the most commonly found in the DLC, and the most effective.

Messmer’s Orb
offers a powerful AOE attack with a wide range. Players rise into the air and slam to the ground, causing a large explosion that deals high damage and can break an enemy’s stance. The cast time of the spell is fast and can be used to decimate groups of enemies. Unfortunately, acquiring this spell means defeating one of the toughest bosses in the DLC. Once Messmer is beaten, players are rewarded with the Remembrance of the Impaler, which can be exchanged for Messmer’s Orb.

Giantsflame Take Thee

This impressive fireball spell is one of the hardest-hitting incantations and maybe the best of all the flame spells in the game. Like many of the magics in Elden Ring, charging, Giantsflame Take Thee
, increases the damage even more. While the FP cost is significant, this spell will quickly become a favorite against common enemies and bosses, due to its fast cast time and high damage.

To acquire this spell, players must go to the far north of the map, in the Mountaintop of the Giants region. Here, they will find the Guardians Garrison and the Giants Prayerbook. This item can be given to either Brother Corhyn or Miriel, Pastor of Vows, who will then sell the spell.
