summation
-
The trophy system is the best because it cuts out grenade spam and allows you to secure objectives without fear of explosions.
-
Active Camo lets you shine with Ninja, Ghost, and Cold Blooded, while Recloak makes you invisible after firing.
-
Most field upgrades are situational. While the trophy system and Active Camo dominate, many others are niche or gimmicky.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has been out for a while now, so finishing touches have become even more important as players can settle on their ideal builds and loadouts. You likely already have a favorite combination of perks and weapons, but field upgrades can still be a bit odd to choose. Because while some can be very beneficial, others can feel completely useless.
Still, there's a field upgrade for everyone and almost every playstyle, allowing you to get the most out of your loadout and reach new heights on the scoreboard. However, if you are looking for the best of the 10 items available in the game, some are much better than others, making them a must-have if you want to dominate the playing field!
mute field
Mute Field isn't a great Field Upgrade overall, but it starts this list because it doesn't offer anything very unique that you can't get by using Perks or Attachments. Activating the mute field silences your footsteps completely, allowing you to quickly move around the map without enemies being able to hear you running and pinpoint your location.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 – The Complete Guide to Weapon Fame
Here's everything you need to know about weapon prestige in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7!
However, with Ninja Perk available in the game, this field upgrade feels useless. Especially since you need to accumulate enough points to use it, and it expires relatively quickly, requiring long matches with ridiculously loud footsteps. Overclocking to suppress gunfire without a silencer is quite useful, but not useful enough to recommend!
drone pod
Oh, and you may have seen the Drone Pod, a field upgrade, everywhere when it was released. You may have seen these drone pods disappear within a few weeks as well. Why is this like this? Well, everyone is running Cold Blooded these days and the Drone Pod doesn't do much damage to justify using it over the others.
Drone pods are no longer useful because you can't track most players on the map, and even if you do, you can't really do anything with them. It's easy to shoot down and dodge, and while it can be helpful in some situations, it shouldn't take priority over most other field upgrades!
trap of fear
Fear Trap is another interesting Field Upgrade with a very cool concept, but it doesn't do much more than just special effects. It's undeniably pretty cool when an enemy travels through a toxic gas mine and starts hallucinating seeing enemies that aren't there. Nonetheless, the moment you try this product once, you'll know what you're looking for, and it will have virtually no effect on you after that.
Overclocking it to inflict toxic gas damage to those infected gets slightly better over time, but it's not enough to move the needle much further. We think the scare trap is great, but it lacks that extra 'gloom' that could take it to a higher level. But I understand that this can be very frustrating!
scrambler
Next, the scrambler works as you would expect. Disrupts the electronics and minimaps of enemies in the affected area, making it difficult to track nearby enemies. In most other titles this would be decent at best, but Overclock saves quite a bit on this and places it near the center of the pack.
It's great that you can show enemies on the minimap while also distracting them. This is because you can jump before enemies even know what hit them. Although Ghost prevents it from appearing on the minimap, it still proves to be quite reliable when used in modes like Hardpoint or Domination. Don't underestimate the potential of a scrambler with a motion sensor overcock!
black hat
Then there's the Black Hat Field upgrade, which allows you to hack enemy equipment, score streaks, and even enemy players. This little device can be extremely lethal in the right hands, as it can hack opponents into temporarily fighting on your side, or it can hack turrets to target the opposing faction.
And when paired with the Engineer Perk and Transmission Booster Overclock, you can see and hack enemy gear and score streaks through walls, turning the tables on your camping opponents without ever having to get close to them. We like Black Hat when used strategically, but it's hard to recommend over the others because you need to use it with a solid build to get the most out of it!
eco unit
The Eco unit is a pretty solid field upgrade overall, making it a top five pick. You can place soldier decoys on the battlefield to spot and contest your targets, and overclock your proximity sensor flash to use flashbang enemies that get too close.
Moreover, you would be surprised at how many people are still gunning for these things, thinking they are the real enemy. This will reveal their location so you can swoop in and take them down. We think this weapon's strongest skill is its ability to lock onto targets, but this is a nice bonus that makes it even more useful!
active camo
I had a bit of a hard time deciding where to place the Active Camo Field Upgrade, but I think it deserves a place in the top five because it can be extremely lethal with the right combination of perks and attachments. Utilizing this field upgrade with silenced weapons along with Ninja, Ghost, and Coldblooded (thank you, Perk Greed) makes Active Camo the best field upgrade in the game.
Additionally, when used in conjunction with Recloak Overclock, you can reapply invisibility after firing your weapon, allowing you to move around the map entirely undetected. However, it doesn't make the top 3 because it relies too much on perks and attachments, but it still deserves a spot!
Assault Pack
The next slightly boring choice is the Assault Pack, which allows teammates to interact with and throw ammo boxes that can replenish ammo, lethal grenades, and tactical grenades. This is a lifesaver, and your team will thank you if you use it.
Got a huge scoring streak, but you're out of ammo? Don't be afraid. Assault Pack has been released. You know the enemy is inside the building, but have they already used a lethal grenade? Yes, you guessed it, the Assault Pack is here to save the day. Simple and to the point, but never useless and will always benefit you and your teammates no matter the mode or level!
squad link
Our second choice is Squad Link. This link provides a huge boost to score accumulation, tool efficiency, and more for all players within its wide area of effect, making it the ultimate field upgrade for those who like to play target.
Additionally, executing this with Command Relay Overdrive will increase your teammate's field upgrade recharge rate, allowing everyone to get streaks and field upgrades quickly, making it nearly impossible for your opponents to compete. When used correctly and strategically, Squad Link is hard to beat!
trophy system
Lastly, the trophy system undoubtedly provides the best field upgrades in the game. If you like Hardpoint, Domination, or even Search and Destroy games, the trophy system will save you stashes worthy of top rankings. You can't argue with how efficient this is.
See, everyone has access to grenades and will use them. Grenade spam has never been more prevalent. So having a trophy system by your side when capturing an objective can save you from exploding into a million pieces. And even better, Tighter Packing Overclock lets you detonate two additional projectiles. This is the best field upgrade by a mile and you wouldn't have it any other way!
