Baldur's Gate 3 fans just found out that Elminster is a clone.

Baldur's Gate 3 features quite a few characters from previous games. Jaheira and Minsc join our party to fight the Absolute, while Sarevok and Viconia play relatively minor roles. Next is Elminster. A famous wizard comes to tell Gale and company what Mystra wants, but it's not a very happy conversation.

He informs Gale that the Goddess has instructed him to use the Netherese Orb to destroy the Netherbrain, killing himself in the process. The old man who came all the way to share this difficult news with his friend was very kind, but it turns out that the Elminster we were talking to was not a real person.

This ominous warning could have been an email

As Even_Season1703 showed off on Reddit, not many players knew that this version of Elminster was actually a construct, and opening his character sheet revealed that fact. This version of his appearance is a simulacrum. This is essentially a clone with the same thoughts and emotions as the wizard casting the spell. If you kill Elminster, you'll see him turn into a puddle of snow.

Longtime fans may already know this, but new players have learned that Baldur's Gate 3's version of Elminster is not the main version of the wizard. This led to a lot of comments wondering why the wizard couldn't take the time to tell his friend to sacrifice himself.

Considering his reputation, the wizard is probably busy dealing with a number of world-ending problems. In fact, he probably has several simulacrums extinguishing fires throughout the realm. Fans couldn't help but joke that Elminster used a version of a magical email to tell Gale that he would have to sacrifice himself.

One comment said, “The man is telling his friend that he should commit suicide on behalf of the man he lives with, but he can't even think of committing suicide himself.” “Elminster sent Gale a fucking zoom call and sent him magic like eating food rations. What a fucking bastard.”
