Baldur's Gate 3 received a hotfix last night to address crashing issues caused by the last hotfix. While this is a welcome move for those who have complained about the issue, there are already complaints about how long it takes to install the hotfix. Steam shows the update is only about 65MB in size, but players have reported it taking over 45 minutes to install.
If you check various forums like Steam and Reddit, it can be a bit confusing as the file sizes vary. This is because of how these updates work. The actual size of the update may be small, but it takes up more space and time than expected, as additional space is required to unpack files, patch large existing files, and recompress or recompress them.
Latest Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix targets crash issues
“It appears that our last minor update to address corrupted savegames affecting many players also introduced some performance issues that were causing crashes. We appreciate your patience while we investigate!” Larian's patch notes said:
The following issues are addressed in this hotfix:
– Fixed frame rate drops and final crash issues when loading a save game.
– Fixed a bug on Xbox where tooltips in the inventory and trade windows were not displayed correctly.
– Fixed a bug on Mac that would prevent players from proceeding with the character creation process after starting the character introduction video in Honor Mode.
Larian previously stated that patch 8 was the last patch to include new content and that the next update would only include fixes or improvements. Unfortunately, the last hotfix resulted in numerous players reporting crashing issues, and the hotfix released last night is intended to address these issues.
There are still other bugs and issues that players are complaining about, such as Karlach's Romance not running or frame rate issues in certain places. However, this seems to happen on a case-by-case basis and was not addressed in yesterday's hotfix.
