Arc Raiders is arguably the most popular multiplayer shooter right now. Even developer Embark couldn't have imagined that it could overwhelm the player numbers of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6. Although it is very popular, it is by no means an easy game. Whether thanks to Arcs or other raiders, you're sure to lose quite a bit of loot on some runs.
I really like this game, but I admit it's a bit difficult at times. Even when I was having an excellent round in terms of loot, a stray leaper suddenly ruined it. While some people are adept at taking down mechanical enemies, others, like me, struggle. Now it seems the developers are considering increasing the difficulty level.
Arc Raiders' arcs may be buffed
Speaking with GamesRadar+, Arc Raiders design lead Virgil Watkins revealed that the community has become adept at handling Arcs, and even Queens and Matriarchs. He pointed out that the game is in a good position now, but as a live service game it still has to remain challenging. This includes increasing the difficulty of Arcs.
“We’re pretty happy with where we are, but I don’t think we can live like that forever,” he said. “I think if we introduce another six-legged giant spider robot, eventually we’ll be like, ‘Yeah, we got it.’ So yeah, I think we’re looking at taking that type of experience into something else or additional things in the future to see how we can expand the player’s experience on the PvE side.
Arc Raiders Expeditions' most annoying features will be reworked, Dev reveals.
Future expeditions will be different.
Watkins noted that players have figured out how to deal with the current set of Arcs using a variety of items and tactics to take them down easily. What hunters once feared is now nothing more than a minor inconvenience. At least for most players. This is where developers look to grow their games next. However, introducing more Queens and Matriarchs may affect performance.
“That’s the challenge,” Watkins added. “We want to go wherever we feel it's practical and fun, but will this blow up the servers? Can we support this kind of stuff? Our ambitions are definitely big, and I can't say we'll see it anytime soon, but we definitely see giant walking things in the background. That's something we're trying to show a bit of contrast as we move forward.”
