Ash Ketchum makes many new friends, both humans and Pokémon, throughout his journey in the original Pokémon anime. Many of his human friends happen to be Pokemon trainers, whether they're gym leaders or Pokemon coordinators. Whatever their individual dreams, Ash supports their goals and vice versa.
As the series progressed, many fans began to wonder which female protagonist could be Ash's love interest. Some people believe that the best option would be to become one of Ash's previous traveling companions, such as Misty or Dawn. Others wonder if she could be one of the main characters in a movie like Bianca or Melody.
Iris and Ash's friendship had a rough start.
The two ultimately learned how to work together.
Iris, a dragon-type gym leader (and later champion) of the Unova region, also appears in the original Pokémon anime series. Iris, a trainer in the Village of Dragons, is tasked with raising newborn Axew on a journey to help her mature emotionally. At the start of the Unova arc of the anime, Iris is shown to be somewhat shy and much more interested in wild adventures than talking to other people. However, after Ash and Cilan officially invited her to join the group, Iris began to open up, although she remained very private for a while. The two were famous for bickering often, and Iris even left the group at one point.
The more the two traveled together, the more Iris began to trust Ash. As his Pokemon got stronger, so did her Pokemon. In fact, her starter Pokemon, Axew, later fully evolved into Haxorus. The season after Ash left Unova, the two reunited at the Masters Eight tournament, where Iris was revealed to have become Unova's champion. The two appear to be more friends than romantic interests in each other, and get along well due to their shared love of combat.

The two still remain best friends
As the daughter of Normal Gym Leader Norman, many people in Petalburg City believed that his eldest child, May, would succeed him. But Mei wasn't really sure what she wanted to do with her life and whether she wanted to work with Pokémon in the first place. She took the opportunity to become a trainer in hopes of seeing the world, and decided to choose Torchic as her starter Pokémon because of its adorable appearance. But like many new trainers, May initially had a hard time figuring out how to battle alongside her Pokémon.
Thankfully, May and Torchic met Ash and Brock, and the former became her main mentor. Over time, May grew into a great trainer, and even decided to take on the role of Pokémon Coordinator after discovering her love for performing. Even after Ash left for the Sinnoh region, the two remained good friends, and May even watched Ash's match against Leon near the end of the series. The two may work as love interests for each other, but most of the time they simply seem like friends.
Dawn and Ash continue to support each other.

Like May before her, Dawn was a rookie trainer when she first met Ash and Brock. In fact, the two will also give her advice on how to become a better trainer, just as they helped her old friend from the Hoenn region. But unlike May, Dawn already knew exactly what she wanted to do with her life. Like her mother, Dawn dreams of becoming a famous Pokémon Coordinator who can fight well and create amazing routines for Pokémon contests.
Many fans believe that Dawn is one of the best friends Ash has ever made. In fact, the two even create a constant signature high-five while traveling together. However, it is not stated whether Dawn truly likes Ash or vice versa. Despite this, the two are often shown supporting each other in their adventures, even trading Pokémon at certain points.
During the events of the second film, Melody grew closer to Ash.

Melody, the supporting protagonist of Pokemon the movie 2000I am from Shamuti Island, located in the Orange Islands. Unlike her sister Carol, Melody felt out of place on Shamouti Island. So her anger at feeling isolated on the island drove her away from Melody and her older sister, and she became bitter and rebellious. However, Melody's opinion of the house changed not long after she met Ash, who was intrigued by her role as a Pokémon trainer.
When she was selected as a Festival Maiden for the annual Legends Festival, Melody decided to welcome Ash by giving him a “traditional welcome kiss” on the cheek, much to Misty's horror. Although initially uninterested in her role as annual festival maiden, Melody realized how loyal she had actually been to the Isle of Shamouti during the reign of terror of Lawrence III. She was also the one who brought Lugia and the legendary birds of Kanto back to life by playing the ocarina at the end of the movie. It's likely that Melody likes Ash, but it's not really stated if he feels the same way about her.

However, some people believe it was actually Latias
in pokemon heroesAsh and his friends travel to Alto Mare, a beautiful city inspired by Venice in the Johto region. Over the course of the movie, Ash and the others learn about Latias and Latios, two legendary Pokémon whose father, another Latios, sacrificed his life to save Alto Mare. The children of the heroic Latios live in the secret garden of Altomare to keep them safe, with Lorenzo and his granddaughter Bianca looking after them. Since Latias is a close friend, she tends to assume Bianca's appearance to tour the rest of Altomare.
Bianca enlisted Ash's help when Team Rocket's Annie and Oakley captured Soul Dew and Latios. She too was captured along with her grandfather, but thanks to Latios' shared vision, Ash and Latias were able to find new friends. At the end of the movie, Bianca made portraits of Ash and Pikachu as a thank you gift and even kissed Ash on the cheek. However, the debate still continues due to the fact that Latias may have disguised herself under the guise of her best friend to actually meet Ash.

Misty is one of Ash's oldest friends.
Misty has been known to feel jealous at times.
Although the two later got along well, Ash and Misty's relationship was somewhat awkward at one point. When Pikachu was injured by a pack of wild Spearow, Ash attempted to escape the avian Pokémon by borrowing Misty's bike to reach the nearest Pokémon Center. Unfortunately for Misty, her bike was broken so she decided to follow him until another Pokemon trainer paid her for the damage. Over time, Misty stopped frequently fetching her lost bicycle and was happy to travel around the Kanto region with her new friends.
Misty's dream is to become a Water-type Pokémon Master, and Ash wants to become a Pokémon Master who can befriend every known Pokémon. As the seasons pass, the two become best friends, although they are prone to bickering, even when they are not traveling together. Misty remains one of the most popular candidates for a possible love interest due to her friendship with Ash, although it has never been explicitly stated whether or not they actually have feelings for one another. However, Misty often feels jealous whenever another girl expresses interest in Ash, although she is quick to claim that she finds the idea of his girlfriend disgusting.
Serena is probably Ash's most popular love interest.
Serena developed a crush on Ash while they were traveling together.
There are plenty of love interests that aren't explicitly revealed to like Ash, but Serena breaks the mold by showing that she really likes the other Pokémon Trainer. Hailing from Vaniville Town in the Kalos region, Serena was raised by her mother, Grace, who was a former professional racer. Serena is shown to be very knowledgeable about caring for her species, but she also wanted to break out of her mother's shadow and find her own destiny. She later realizes her desire to become the best Pokémon performer and works hard toward her goal of becoming Queen Kalos.
Along with her partner Pokémon, Fennekin, Serena joins Ash's Kalos-based traveling group early in the series, looking up to her childhood friend. Having helped her as a child, Serena considers Ash to be her crush and greatest source of inspiration. In fact, when Serena said goodbye to her group before leaving for the Hoeyeon region, Serena saw that the atmosphere around her had changed and quickly ran to her friend. It is then implied that Serena said goodbye to Ash with a kiss. As Serena comes down the escalator, the two smile at each other, while the rest of the group is surprised. Likewise, many Pokemon fans were very surprised when this moment was revealed.
