This article contains spoilers for One Piece Final Saga.
lang syne one piece Eiichiro Oda, the author of the story that started the Final Saga, introduced fans to the secret monarch of the world, Saint Imu Nerona. In the Reverie arc, Imu is shown sitting on the empty throne of the World Government, controlling everything from behind the shadows. There were a few things that stood out about this figure, but the most interesting of all was his appearance. Seven years have passed since then, and Imu's appearance is more of a mystery than ever. Imoo debuted as a shadowy figure that seemed insubstantial.
They certainly have humanoid bodies, but all you can see are red, glowing eyes. Shadows are also cast on their hands. Now, after seven long years, Eiichiro Oda seems to have confirmed that. Imu's body is not hidden in silhouette just for surprises. Their real appearance is dark. And that's part of their power. Naturally, this surprised quite a few fans, and Oda will likely revisit this point in the future.
Oda confirms that Imu's true form is the shadow figure itself.
in one piece In episode 1165, Eiichiro Oda gave fans a proper fight. Domi Reversi Rocks and the team of Roger and Garp. This battle was truly shocking and explained a lot about the concept of Haki as well as immortality in the world of One Piece. But more than anything, the misery of Imu's true appearance was finally resolved.
Allow Mu to show you the power of God! — Imu to Elbaf
For years, fans have wondered what Imu really looks like. Oda is known to use silhouettes to hide characters until they are officially revealed. Most fans thought the same was true for Imu. But it seems that Imu isn't just hidden behind Oda's silhouette.
Imu's action appearance is that of a shadowy black monster. And this was directly confirmed in One Piece Episode 1165. Just before that, Imu took control of Saturn's body in God Valley. He then continued with powerful attacks from the likes of Roger, Garp, Rocks, Kaido, Big Mom, and Whitebeard. Despite their combined strength, they barely flinched. Soon after, Roger and Garp confirm that Imu's true form is actually a shadow monster..
Roger and Garp confirm Imu's true form.
During the battle against Domi Reversi Rocks, Roger and Garp spoke specifically about Imu. Roger clearly tells Garp that the former shadow figure belongs to the World Government.Despite this, they claim to be good people. To this, Garp responded that he agreed with his opinion, but that he would remain in the Marines to protect them from the government.
Did you know that the World Government has such dark characters? And they call themselves good people! — Roger to Garp
The important detail here is in Roger's own words. Roger himself saw Imu as a mass of shadows, and so did Garp. In other words, Imu is not just a silhouette, he is actually a shadow monster.. He is darkness itself, and for some reason his powers appear as pitch-black shadows. Imu's character design is not hidden from Oda. In fact, it was clear from day 1.
Imu's true form is revealed in Final Saga
Of course, Imu was not born as a shadowy mass. Instead, Imu either gained this power or was cursed in some way.. Either way, fans will soon see Imu's true colors. Oda will truly show fans what Imu really looks like. If it is a Devil Fruit ability, its true identity will be revealed when Blackbeard nullifies its power. If it is a curse, Imu will definitely do her best to break free, and at some point, she will probably succeed.
Eiichiro Oda's One Piece will be serialized next week. One Piece Episode 1166 comes out in two weeks. The official release date for One Piece Chapter 1166 is November 23, 2025. Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus.
