Elden Ring fan adds working wings.

summation

  • This Elden Ring modder added a way to fly in the game two years later.

  • Make the Torrent invisible and replace the riding animation of the wings SFX to make it look like it's flying through the air.

  • It took months of research to complete the mod, and while elements of it are still a work in progress, you can download it right now.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree adds a new Ash of War, which allows you to sprout wings and fly into the air before crashing into your opponent. But ineedthetail took this idea further.

The latest mod, which you can download here, allows you to fly freely. To achieve this, we made Torrent invisible, added flight controls, and replaced the riding animation. The end result is that the Crucible Knight appears to fly through the air with a pair of wings.

As a result, it also replaces Torrent.

Of course, this breaks the game a bit. You can immediately fly into the endgame area and even leave the border area, but it also opens up some fun new challenges. inedthetail has already uploaded a video experimenting with how fast the game can run.

They were able to fly from the jump to the Forge of the Giants, meet Melina, and burn Erdtree to ash. All without even saying, ‘How are you?’ To just one demigod. Afterwards, they glided towards Maliketh through Crumbling Farum Azula, beating him on an NG+ setup, flying up to the second boss Mists, and fighting Godfrey and Morgott. immediatelyHe then took down Radagon and the Elden Beast to roll the credits. All this happens in just 10 minutes.

This mod has been a dream since the release of Elden Ring

This mod has been ineedthetail's dream since the early days of Elden Ring, and involves “months of research and trial and error” and even includes a nine-part plan to create a flight mode that's satisfying to play. It's intuitive.

To achieve this achievement, there were several challenges that had to be overcome, some of which are still in progress. Most importantly, it needs to be checked for fall damage. That way, killboxes and death cams won't trigger and you won't die instantly if you fly into the wrong part of the map.

They also had to shut down poor torrents.

Disabling fall damage took “months”, and removing killboxes and death cams was done “a painstakingly slow job” by manually modifying the map. There are also issues with maps not loading (Stormveil Castle and Leyndell Capital trigger “only in very specific locations”). ineedthetail hasn't found a solution yet and is still investigating.

Regardless, this is an incredibly impressive mod that makes flying feel like a natural addition to the game. It's understandable why FromSoftware didn't introduce such a mechanism. The world and its progression are not designed for flight. But it's great to be able to revisit The Lands Between from a new perspective. The fact that it's done so well is just the cherry on top.

Built on the universe of Game of Thrones author George RR Martin and developed by FromSoftware, Elden Ring is a masterpiece of the 'Soulslike' genre of action role-playing games.
