warning! Spoiler alert!
1 Shuhei Hisagi
Hisagi unfortunately continues to be the Soul Reapers' punching bag.
- first appearance: Episode 21
Hisagi has become somewhat infamous among the fandom for being used as little more than a punching bag in recent issues. It's easy to forget that Hisagi once appeared as a very powerful warrior in the Fake Karakura Village arc, freeing his Bankai, but in the final arc he's pretty much useless.
After being attacked by Masc De Masculine, Hisagi barely manages to fend off Bambis and ends up being defeated by Byakuya after being mind-controlled by none other than Pepe. Needless to say, this wasn't Hisagi's greatest show in the series.
2 Komamura Photos
Komamura made the ultimate sacrifice for a small achievement.
- first appearance: Episode 24
Komamura's humanization technique may have been an incredible power-up never before seen in action, but the sacrifice this captain ultimately makes is not that great in the story. Although Bambietta easily eliminated regular Soul Reaper troops with her attacks, she was still only one of many invading Sternritter and was considered weaker than many of his peers, such as Gremmy and As Nodt.

Bleach's villains all have different powers and abilities, but their appearances and designs are also very unique.
Despite this, Komamura also makes the ultimate sacrifice of becoming a wolf in order to free Bankai while unleashing enough power to destroy Bambietta. It's implied that Komamura wanted to head straight for Yhwach in this form, but the fact that he's gassed while still far away from him ultimately thwarts his entire plan.
3 rose
Rose's dazzling bankai is nothing in the end
- first appearance: Episode 122
Rose does a decent job defeating a few Quincy grunts in the first invasion, but meets his end shortly afterwards, making him absent for most of the arc. After the jaw-dropping Bankai is revealed, Rose makes the critical mistake of explaining to her opponent in detail how the technique works.
Rose is counted out after Masc buries him with a barrage of punches. Not only that, but he later becomes a zombie that Mayuri saves. Rose failed miserably to reach the heights of his fellow captains in this arc, but he certainly performed well in style.
4 Bambietta Basterbein
The leader of the Bambis is eliminated and zombified pretty quickly.
- first appearance: TYBW Episode 6
The Bambis are a group of wacky and creepy Sternritters who actually play a big part in the final issue. At least most of them do. While Lillittoto, Candice, Meninas, and Giselle all engage in multiple battles throughout the series, Bambietta meets her end at the hands of Komomura, her first real battle.

Bleach: The 8 Greatest Heroes of the Thousand Year Blood War, Ranking
This very important Bleach character proved to be a valuable asset when Quincy attacked.
After falling into battle, she is turned into a zombie by her friend Giselle and is treated horribly by her new owners. Despite being the leader of one of these unique groups, Bambietta doesn't have a huge presence every time she appears on screen, but she's still a fan favorite in the series.
5 BG-9
The mysterious Sternritter who suffered terrible humiliation.
- first appearance: TYBW Episode 5
When BG-9 first appeared on screen early in the arc, this mysterious metal monster seemed like one of the most interesting Sternritters to ever appear. Unfortunately, BG-9 is plunged into oblivion after Soi Fon uses his Bankai just minutes after he is revealed, and in the anime he is later humiliated by his failure.
Fans feel like they've only had a brief glimpse into BG-9's true power, leaving them wondering what this unique Quincy can actually do in combat. It's a testament to writer Tite Kubo's character design that such a disposable villain can look this great, but it's a shame that BG-9 ended up being such a waste.
6 Yamamoto Genryusai
The leader of the Gotei 13 suffered a crushing defeat that cost his life.
- first appearance: Episode 24
It's sad to admit it, but Yamamoto, leader of the Gotei 13, did almost nothing in the epic final showdown with Quincy. In fact, his feat was to kill one Quincy, use up his entire Bankai, and split it in two, leaving Soul Society in despair.
In Yamamoto's defense, it could be justified that his incredible display of power was the moment that forced Yhwach to retreat. But even though the Bankai activation is one of the series' best moments, it doesn't do much to justify how little Yamamoto accomplishes.
7 Chad
Chad still can't seem to catch up with Ichigo and the others.
- first appearance: Episode 2
Chad can't catch a break. Orihime made a significant contribution in helping Ichigo take on Yhwach several times in the final arc, but the same cannot be said for Chad. Other than blocking the rain of Quincy arrows hitting Ichigo and throwing a few harsh punches here and there, Chad doesn't really do much in this arc.
Still, it's nice to see his conversation with Ichigo become a heartfelt moment. Especially when discussing the situation with Uryu. However, Chad himself is once again dealt a bad hand, making him look a little weak compared to his friends.
8 Ganju Shiba
Ganju's moment of proving himself somehow made him even more forgettable.
- first appearance: Episode 22
When Ganju suddenly joined the gang and headed to the Palace of Souls, it seemed like he had a point to prove. Ganju has been defeated at every turn in the Soul Society arc, but this could be an opportunity to show what this brave man can do with his sand-based abilities and random assortment of weapons.
Ganju comes with a map of the Soul Palace, but along with the smoke screen Yhwach is waving, that's ultimately all he provides. In the anime, Ganju succeeds in sinking the Schutzstafell with quicksand, but it feels as if his reputation among fans has not improved in this arc, as Ganju is shown to be an embarrassingly weak character.
