Nintendo has confirmed that the changes have been made to comply with EU battery regulations that will come into effect in February 2027. To clarify, these changes are for the original Joy-Con for Switch, which are compatible with the Switch 2.

Nintendo says the updated Joy-Con controllers will be available in Neon Blue (left) and Neon Red (right) in the Nintendo Store starting July 16. Additional colors will be released at different intervals throughout the year, but the company did not elaborate further. The controller update in Europe comes just weeks before the price of the Switch 2 increased on September 1 from $449.99 to $499.99 before taxes and fees.
