Modnation Racers has been revived by fans with online support.

Modnation Racers, one of the PS3's most underrated classic cult games, has been brought back by fans in 4K and even gets full online support.

The PlayStation 3 started out with a high price tag, but eventually became one of the company's best and most versatile consoles. Especially now that we know what Sony wants next. Unfortunately the PS3 also It's a bit of a graveyard with some major hidden gems we'll never see again.

There are a few titles left on the PS3, like Infamous, Resistance, and early Killzone games, but what's more interesting are the ones that haven't received as much attention. Puppeteer, Rag Doll Kung Fu and Tokyo Jungle all come to mind very quickly. But one of my favorites is Modnation Racers. This game finally got the love it always deserved.

Modnation Racers fans have brought it back to PC and it's better than ever.

With online support and crossplay, this is the revived PlayStation we were denied

For those of you who don't know, Modnation Racers was a kart racing game with a LittleBigPlanet vibe, with an emphasis on customization and player creation, considering the series wasn't really a success. This underrated gem was released on PS3 in 2010 and had a dedicated player base, but unfortunately that didn't stop it from going completely offline in 2018.

Modnation Racers was so focused on online play that if you went offline and were stuck on your PS3 forever, you'd basically be completely dead. That was until Twitter user PStripl3 confirmed that he had resurrected the game and made it playable on PC with full online support.

But that's not all. This PC version of Modnation Racers actually improves on the original, including a first-ever 4K and 60fps, improved features, crossplay, and support for the game's massive amount of crossover DLC. Twitter user StormslayerDev, who first broke the news of the resurrection, also showed off some of the skins in action, including Sly, Sackboy, and Kratos.

I don't know if this emulated version of Modnation Racers will be picked up by Sony and eventually discontinued (a separate revival project appears to still be in the works), but it's still heartwarming to see these cult classics getting new life after so many years. I hope United Front Games still sees how loved that first game is to this day.
