A digital-only PS3 masterpiece that will be gone forever

The PlayStation 3 digital era is finally coming to an end as Sony plans to close the PS3 Store, which will leave many iconic and amazing games permanently inaccessible. It's one thing to have a copy of a rare disc or find a version in another region, but it's a whole other world to have a game never actually release and therefore never come back on once the lights go out.

Many people have complained about the decision to remove the store's carpets, but at the moment there appears to be nothing we can do to prevent its closure. That said, there's still time to give these games a chance to live on beyond the sunset rather than being left in the dark.

Combining traditional tower defense mechanics with real-time unit production, the game felt much more like a classic RTS game in many ways, challenging you to capture bases, manage resources, and outmaneuver your opponents in small-scale battlefields that required careful planning rather than brute force.

There's also the option to play with or against friends, opening the door to some pretty intense nights of couch co-op for those looking to prove who's best. With stores closing, we think it's the perfect time to buy the game and save it as a crowd-pleaser or complete dozens of levels solo.

crash commando It offered chaotic side-scrolling multiplayer action and, even today, feels completely different from anything else on the PlayStation 3. You'll have access to a variety of weapons and tools that can be used to blow up both the environment and the players within it, and with the objective-based mode added on top, you'll end up with some surprisingly mechanical combat.

To succeed, quick reflexes and creative movement are your biggest assets, the latter becoming more important depending on the verticality and complexity of each map. It's a cult classic that deserves a revival, but it's a gem that will soon be gone if you don't act fast enough.

Built with motion in mind

Ecochrome II One of PlayStation's most creative puzzle games is taken in a whole new direction. Designed around the PlayStation Move controller, you can manipulate light sources to create shadows that become physical platforms for a series of wooden mannequins to navigate, and as simple as the concept is, the later stages start to get quite strange.

Reliance on the PlayStation Move hardware already made the game something of a curiosity, and the lack of a physical release only made it even more so. If you have a Move near you, I highly recommend giving them a try. Because although many of the puzzles can be incredibly difficult, they will soon become unsolvable.

Stories from Space: About the Blob One of the standout titles of the PlayStation Network era, the game puts you in control of a gelatinous creature that grows by consuming everything in its path, gradually transforming from a small laboratory experiment into a city-devouring monster. The unique size-based progression and upbeat tone helped it stand out from the PS3's digital library, and as if one chunk wasn't enough, some specially designed multiplayer levels were added as additional DLC, allowing for co-op play as well.

One complaint many players had was that the experience was short, but within those short levels there was a lot more variety than many modern puzzle platformers. It's unique, fun, and finally, there's no reason not to have a fun meal while traversing the city.

Savage Moon

Alien Defense in the Living Room

Tower defense games come in all shapes and sizes, but Savage Moon One of the most impressive things from the PS3 generation. Your goal is to defend your mining operation against endless waves of insect-like alien lifeforms. Doing so will require you to think very carefully about your tower placement and upgrade decisions to adapt to increasingly dangerous enemy types.

The action is also much more cinematic than its contemporaries, incorporating far more three-dimensional models, making explosions and effects during intense gunfights really stand out. Now, after ten years of defense, it is time to make a final stand against the aliens and show them who the King of the Moon really is.
