There are only a few dual types left that Game Freak hasn't utilized in Pokémon's extensive 30-year history, and Fire/Fairy is one of the most requested. But according to reputable leaker Centro, fans may soon finally get what they want with Winds and Waves.
In a new post about X, they shared a rumor currently circulating among insiders. Perhaps Browt's evolution will be a Grass/Ground type, Gecqua will be a Water/Psychic type, and Pombon's line will get the always-elusive Fire/Fairy type, marking the fluffy little Pomeranian as the first in the series.
A Little Pom-Pom Starter Could Make Pokémon History
The idea of a little pom-pom evolving into one of the most powerful 'mons in franchise history is a little hard to wrap my head around, but that might have sold me on the hilarious handbag dog. Not only does this mean immunity to Dragon types, but it also boasts natural resistances to Bug, Dark, Fairy, Fighting, Grass, Ice, and Fire, making it an all-round Pokédex Titan. From Paris Hilton's wallet to competing with box art legends.
Other missing type pairs are: Normal/Ice, Normal/Bug, Normal/Rock, Normal/Steel, Ice/Poison, Ground/Fairy, Bug/Dragon, Rock/Ghost.
While Pombon is getting some attention as a historical Fire/Fairy type, Gecqua will evolve into a Water/Psychic type, making it the first starter in Pokémon history, another notable milestone. The green Angry Bird (aka Browt) is also the first starter to evolve into a Grass/Ground type since 2006, following in Torterra's massive footsteps.
To be fair, fairies are a relatively new type, having only been introduced in Generation VI. But if there's water sitting around the leak, you'll still have 14 years to wait for a fire/fairy type (but don't splash on the pombone). There are also pre-X and Y monsters that fans believe should retroactively be considered Fire/Fairy. Like the Victini, it was created as a Fire/Psychic type to represent magical and mythical states ('Fairy' is a much better fit), but Game Freak has yet to succumb to the temptation to rewrite history.
This isn't the only leak from Centro this weekend. Yesterday they shared a photo of Billy, a “good source” for seven different teases about new monsters arriving in Winds and Waves, using photos of Anna from Overwatch and even pirate photos from Backrooms as clues. What they mean is anyone's guess right now.
