This was a clever way for Eiichiro Oda to show that Mihawk and Immu are related by blood. This new sword technique introduced by Imu, combined with the golden/red ring-eye pattern, officially established a strong lineage relationship between the two through the Nerona clan.
For those who don't remember, the Nerona family was one of the 20 families that came together in battle against the Old Kingdom 800 years ago during the Void Century. Even though Imu became king, the Nerona clan still exists in the Holy Land as one of the 20 founding members of the nation.
There are many theories about the blood relationship between Mihawk and Imu, but the most likely one is that Mihawk is Imu's biological son. This makes sense given the shared eye pattern, but more than that, there's also the naming pattern that Oda used for Dracule Mihawk. The word Dracule literally translates into Romanian as “son of the devil.” In One Piece Chapter 1179, which was officially released on April 5, 2026, and the 19th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump, Eiichiro Oda officially introduced Imu as a world devil with the power of the legendary Devil Fruit, or “Devil Fruit.” If Mihawk's name suggests that he is the son of a demon, and Nero or Imu are demons of the world, then it is very likely that Mihawk is a direct lineage, and this is further supported by the latest reveal of One Piece Volume 115.
