Some top Twitch talents have embraced the platform's “IRL” category as a way to bring fans more into their lives, with some even streaming driving or DoorDash. Now, ExtraEmily is having trouble with Twitch moderation after an incident that nearly caused her to crash during her Twitch stream.
Twitch releases official statement on advertising controversy
Twitch shares its official response to the recent controversy surrounding advertising changes on the Amazon-owned streaming platform.
ExtraEmily was officially temporarily suspended from Twitch following an on-stream incident on June 28. During the broadcast, she took her eyes off the road while driving her car and looked at her phone to respond to a Twitch chat while driving. Distracted driving caused her to almost crash into a Mazda SUV approaching from the opposite direction, while the streamer narrowly avoided colliding with another vehicle. Neither vehicle was damaged in the near-collision, but ExtraEmily received a 24-hour suspension from Twitch following the accident. ExtraEmily's Twitch ban has since been lifted, allowing her to return to streaming.

ExtraEmily's incident sparked controversy in the Twitch community over the mild punishment the streamer received. Despite being a direct violation of Twitch policies, Emily was only banned from the platform for 24 hours and allowed to return the next day. The incident raised the topic of the act of live streaming and whether driving streaming should be allowed on platforms where users converse in chat, which has the potential to be distracting, raising major safety concerns. Twitch has launched a new ban system in 2026, clearly laying out the system for various bans on chat and live streaming. The platform now splits the punishment between restricting the offending user's ability to chat in chat and restricting their ability to stream on Twitch. More serious violations of platform policies may result in bans from both chat and live streaming, depending on the severity of the offense. Fans can only hope that ExtraEmily learns from her recent ban and prioritizes safe driving over chatting.
