When it's revealed that an incredibly rare new card is being distributed to a select group of Pokemon fans, there's usually a mix of anger and confusion. But news of a new Mega Gallade ex card that can only be obtained in two very specific ways isn't met with the same enthusiasm, even though most people reading this, including me, will never get the card.
Mega Gallade promo cards will be given away to thousands of lucky fans to celebrate the launch of Storm Emeralda in Japan. The artwork is by long-time Pokemon artist Akira Egawa, so it's in a scratchy pencil style, and not only is it one of Egawa's coolest cards to date, it might just be the coolest Gallade card of all time.

It's fitting that the card should be a limited-edition promotion that can only be obtained in two very specific and potentially very awkward ways. The first is to let The Pokemon Company know about our experience with the new Storm Emeralda deck. 2,000 Pokémon TCG players will be randomly selected through a drawing. Those 2,000 fans will receive a copy of the card.
This accurate information led to inaccurate reports that only 2,000 of the Mega Gallade ex promo cards would be printed. As Wargamer highlights, that's not the case at all. There is a second method open to Japanese Pokemon fans who want to get their hands on these amazing Egawa-drawn cards. It's a way to invest more of your assets in raw TCG technology than relying on the luck of a lottery system.

Trainers can also earn a copy of the card by participating in official Pokémon TCG tournaments held at local game stores across Japan. Earn 3 wins in Sealed tournaments at approved stores and you'll receive a copy of the Mega Gallade promo card. Of course, it's easier said than done. This is because there will be more players than usual, all trying to do the same thing.
Although this is confirmation that more than 2,000 cards will be available, it is unclear how many cards will be printed in total. There's no telling how many cards the card store will have. This means that the cards will eventually run out and, unfortunately, will almost certainly become the latest cards to be targeted by scalpers and sold at inflated prices on resale sites.
To make matters worse, for those of us living outside of Japan, purchasing this card used may be our only opportunity to add it to our collection. There is no indication that the Mega Gallade promo will be released in English. Let's hope there are so many tokens available to give away to tournament participants that the market price doesn't reach Moonbreon levels.
