For those of you who don't know, the Annecy Film Festival has been held annually in Annecy, France for almost 70 years. Many amazing TV series, movies and other projects are showcased here every year, and when it comes to animation, only the best of the best are showcased at this festival. As soon as it was announced that 'One Piece' would appear at the Netflix panel at the Annecy Film Festival, we were sure that some kind of teaser trailer would be released. Plus, the fact that One Piece was on display here meant it deserved to be displayed alongside the other incredible anime works scheduled to be showcased at the event, so expectations were high. Finally, after seeing the teaser trailer for the first time, we can officially say that this animated project is incredibly ambitious, and after delivering a good first look, it's more than enough to live up to and exceed fans' expectations. The new teaser trailer for WIT Studio's 'One Piece' anime series is a very sensational piece that depicts the adventures of Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates in East Blue, the Sea of Beginnings. Luffy's adventures across multiple islands like Shell's Town, Syrup Village, and even Baratie are showcased nicely in the teaser. Most importantly, his deep and warm relationship with Shanks is also briefly mentioned.
Above all, the quality of the animation is truly amazing, but Kyoji Asano's character designs are also truly amazing. Masashi Koizuka, the director of the series, certainly did a great job on this anime project, and you can see why it took about three years to make. The main animation featured in the teaser trailer was brief, and I'm sure there's more to come. But from this quick look, we can already tell that this project is going to be an absolute marvel.

This key visual perfectly captures the essence of Luffy and a modern interpretation of One Piece and has us hugely excited for what comes next.
The most striking detail of this new key visual is Kyoji Asano's character design, which perfectly recreates the essence of Oda's manga. This makes sense, considering the fact that the entire team at WIT Studio, which produced the One Piece anime remake, studied Oda's manga for months until they perfected the character designs. Clearly, the results speak for themselves.

On May 5, 2026, Netflix officially announced that Season 1 of Wit Studio's 'One Piece' will consist of 300 minutes of content, adapting the first 50 chapters of the manga and concluding the beginning of the Barati arc as Luffy finally meets Sanji, the Straw Hat Pirates' chef. One of fans' biggest concerns about this new animated project was the pace of progress. Considering that the 300 minutes of content adapts about 50 chapters, the pacing is absolutely perfect.

In terms of episodes, Netflix has promised us seven episodes, and based on the overall runtime of the season, each episode will be around 42 minutes long. This suggests that the pacing will be around 3-4 chapters per episode, which is absolutely appropriate for the early part of the series. The first season of Wit Studio's The One Piece anime will allow us to once again witness Monkey D. Luffy's journey across East Blue, and it's something we'd love to see a modern interpretation of.

As far as the release date is concerned, Netflix has already announced that the 'One Piece' anime remake will be released in February 2027. Unfortunately, I'm not particularly excited because all seven episodes of the anime are scheduled to be released at once. One Piece is an anime series that sparks a lot of discussion among fans, and for a series of this scale, weekly releases would have been much better so that episodes could be engrossed and discussed more.
However, considering that most fans who will be watching 'One Piece' are existing fans who have already experienced the series in various forms, this is not the biggest trade-off. We are very satisfied as long as a high-quality series is delivered and One Piece is brought to life in a modern way.
An exact release date for the series is not yet available, but we hope Netflix will provide an update on it soon. For now, we eagerly await February 2027, when we can once again enjoy Luffy's journey as he officially heads towards the Grand Line.
