An open-world game that's underrated and misunderstood by critics

It's good, but not every game can score a 10/10, and unless your project is a masterpiece in the open world space, good luck avoiding a mixed response. There are a lot of great games out there that have been shunned and review bombed for various reasons. Some are performance-related, others are gameplay-related, but when you look beyond the veil of what really matters, the experience that exists is much better.

It's good to only focus on the best and brightest the genre has to offer, but taking a step back and enjoying something a little less praised can actually lead you to discover some great games that might otherwise have gone completely unnoticed. In the end, these games show that reviews only tell half the story, and maybe a 6/10 might actually feel like an 8.

Mad Max It was released in the shadow of several larger releases and, more importantly, received respectable review scores. As a result, it was largely sidelined for the next few months. Lack of interest aside, many other players and I have come to appreciate how well Avalanche Studios has translated the franchise into an open-world game, from the wasteland design to the car combat that infuses action at every moment.

Building and upgrading vehicles creates an engaging progression loop that keeps exploration rewarding throughout the adventure and fits the theme of the world without being too arcadey. I truly believe that if it were released today, it would top the charts and score even higher, bringing a level of intensity to the genre that has been largely absent over the past decade.

A way ahead of the times

I would also like to say that the setting puts a lot of effort into recreating the 60's perfectly and the soundtrack and atmosphere add a lot to an already immersive experience. Like any game, it has some flaws, but the narrative writing and dedication to authenticity injected into every scene outweigh the flaws.

On the other hand, I believe that this is one of the better games in the franchise because by ditching the modern weaponry and setting the game in the Stone Age, Ubisoft radically changed the core gameplay in exchange for something much more interesting.

You spend most of your time hunting and taming beasts while surviving against hostile tribes, but the lack of modernity creates a completely different pace from other entries in the series. Additionally, the prehistoric setting remains one of the most unique environments Ubisoft has created, setting it apart from its competitors and proving that experimentation can actually pay off with the right amount of creativity.

i bought biological mutation At launch, we experienced many of the same issues we focused on in our review. There were technical shortcomings and inconsistent storytelling, but once the performance issues were resolved, I was able to experience the game's greatest strength: gameplay.

Blending martial arts, mutations, gadgets, and customizable weapons into a single combat loop allows you to control how engagements progress regardless of the number or size of your enemies. The world also feels very unique and takes you into a colorful post-apocalyptic world that is both bizarre and beautiful.
