Wizards of the Coast originally released Magic: The Gathering crossovers at a slow and steady pace, but the four Universes Beyond sets are only coming out in 2026. This means, for better or worse, the floodgates are fully open.
If you're looking for a comprehensive guide to all Universe Beyond sets, we've listed them in order from worst to best. We are here to help. Each set is ranked based on originality, card quality, interest in the release, and the card's impact on the MTG landscape (for Commander/Standard set releases).
Updated June 21, 2026 by Niall Walsh: Now that the TMNT and Marvel Super Heroes sets have been added to this list, we won't be adding any more minor Secret Lair drops, as WotC has all but neglected to consider them part of Universe Beyond for a while. If an IP receives a Secret Lair but returns a full UB set or additional products, we add those to the list.

Marvel's Spider-Man
Full Standard Set – 2025
Where to start with the Spider-Man set? This disastrous release failed to make it to MTG Arena due to licensing issues, causing widespread confusion in the community. Additionally, as what was supposed to be a smaller set became a full Standard release, the cards felt rushed and uninspired, failing to synergize well with existing Standard sets or function well as standalone products.
The straw that broke the camel's back was the fact that this set pushed back the release of the hugely anticipated original MTG set, Lorwyn Eclipsed, and that it was released amidst a massive surge in new products, leaving players jaded and neglected by the expectations of investing in new products too often.

Magic: The Gathering – All mechanically unique Secret Lair cards that have not been reprinted.
There are many mechanically unique cards in Magic: The Gathering that were printed only once, and there's no guarantee they'll ever be reprinted.

tomb raider
Secret Rare Drop – 2023
Released exclusively as Secret Lair Drop, Tomb Raider Universes Beyond focuses on a remake of the long-running Tomb Raider series. The main attraction of this drop is the Tomb Raider herself, Lara Croft. Mechanically unique, this card focuses on legendary artifacts and lands, returning them from the graveyard and banishing them with a new type of counter that comes with this card: discovery counters. You can then play the card in exile if you have one of those counters.
- Lara Croft, Tomb Raider
- Explorer's Heart // Lost Valley
- Yamatai's Storm
- a gloomy whisper
- Totec's Spear
- Kitezh, the sunken city
- treasure token
This drop has not yet been released in the Universes Within version, so the only way to play with the Lara Croft card is to get it from this drop.

proviso
Secret Rare Drop – 2024
A rather interesting entry in the Universes Beyond series, Ravnica: Clue Edition is a multiplayer variant of the game, giving you and three or four friends the chance to get together and play a game of magic while solving mysteries.
- Guild Mage Body
- Headliner Scarlett
- Commander Mustard
- apothecary white
- envoy green
- Duke Senator
- Mastermind Plum
Mrs. Every character from the original Clue game appears in the game, including Peacock and Colonel Mustard, this time fantastically recreated as if they were characters from Ravnica. Each Clue character is a legendary creature and mechanically unique card that complements the many mechanically unique cards mixed in the set.

There is a fourth Secret Lair Drop scheduled for release in 2024, but details about that release are lacking.
All of these drops contain alternate art reprints or card reskins. There are no mechanically unique cards in Drops. Interestingly, the Electric Entourage set features a vocaloid named KAITO. This Vocaloid is not Kaito Shizuki, an actual character from the Magic world, but a borderless version with altered skin color of Jace, the Unraveler of Secrets.
There's a strong rumor that a new Hatsune Miku Commander deck will arrive as part of the Secret Lair, which could increase inventory for the Universes Beyond crossover once it's released.

monty python
Secret Rare Drop – 2024
The iconic humor of Monty Python and the Holy Grail may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you picture the Universe Beyond set, but these two Secret Lair Drops include a total of nine reskinned cards, each depicting a different scene from the movie.

Perhaps the deepest part of Secret Lair, or Universes Beyond, is the inclusion of Tim the Enchanter, a reskinned version of the Prodigal Sorcerer. The card was nicknamed Tim because its original artwork resembled the character Tim the Enchanter from the movie.

Ghostbusters
Secret Rare Drop – 2024
Ten re-skinned cards and two sets of cards make up the Ghostbusters Universe Beyond Secret Lair Drops, based on the classic comedy film starring Bill Murry, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver.

spongebob squarepants
Secret Rare – 2025
Unfortunately, this SpongeBob-themed Secret Lair didn't include any of the original cards, and while the artwork was fun, it felt more like a cash-grab meme release than something that would have any long-term impact on Magic.
