4 new Magic: The Gathering The Commander Precon deck has arrived in Marvel Super Heroes. I was initially confident in ranking every face commander in the Marvel set, but now that the decklist is out, the dynamic has completely changed.
I support this because individual commander rankings are based on what you can build using card abilities and mechanics, but when it comes to precon decks, there are clear winners and losers in this set.
What was supposed to be the most competitive deck ended up being the worst of the four decks despite its high reprint value, with the four decks generally split by a rather large power gap. Now that we have the full deck list, we'll walk you through each deck and its ranking.

Doom's Victory
A list of strong leaders but disconnected entities.
Despite having arguably the most powerful combination of faces and backup commanders, the Doom Prevails deck is easily the worst deck in Marvel Super Heroes and is completely let down by its list of enigmatic creatures.
Doctor Doom relies heavily on the Connive mechanic, which is prevalent throughout the creature list, but feels incredibly disjointed as each villain card has its own alternate agenda.
Doom Prevails has the highest reprint value of the four Marvel Super Heroes Commander precones.
That's not to say the deck isn't powerful when it works, but cards like Loki's Double and Lady Loki's Manifestation focus on copying creatures or creature types, Madame Hydra focuses on creating villain tokens, and Superior Foes of Spider-Man deals with exile cards from the top of your library.
This deck tries to fit too many strategies and mechanics into a 100-card deck, which ultimately ends up being detrimental to Freecon as a whole.
This deck has a good chance of recovery through upgrades, but ideally you'll want to start with a lot more synergies in the Commander precon. That said, I look forward to the challenge of getting this deck up to speed against some of the more powerful decks we've seen this year, including all of Strixhaven Commander's secret precons.

We're ranking all the primary and backup commanders in the MTG Marvel Super Heroes precon deck to see which ones you should consider for your deck.

fantastic four
lane selection
I had my doubts about The Fantastic Four deck long before the decklist was released, but that was because it took a similar approach to the TMNT dictionary concept of having a variety of options to lead the deck, missing a key element that makes a TMNT deck work: partners.
A Fantastic Four deck without a partner is all about picking a commander that fits your play style and praying that you get the right card out at the right time to match your level of aggression. The Thing and Human Torch are the more aggressive commanders, while Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman are more passive.
Partners allow you to choose more than one commander for your deck, as is the case in TMNT and certain other combinations, such as Ellie and Joel in The Last of Us Secret Lair.
This makes the deck feel split between defense and offense, making it easy to rotate into situational builds, but really forcing you to pick a lane and commit rather than playing both sides of the fence.
I like the focus on magic that triggers Commander abilities, but only six moments feel like a missed opportunity. Your opponents will see where most strategies are built in the first key phase, so they can easily target you with counters and eliminations. Not being able to prevent much by casting instants on the stack means you're telegraphing a lot of actions, which isn't ideal at all in Commander.
This deck also has a ton of ramps, but I'll take that as a positive for now. Especially considering the mana cost of activating the Fantastic Four card's ability, it can be awkward if you don't draw the lands you need early in the game.
2
Wakanda Forever
artifacts on steroids
The Wakanda Forever deck is the only deck in this ranking that didn't actually change its ranking when the decklist was released. Based solely on T'Challa, the face of Black Panther's commander, it was clear what deck this was, and it was only confirmed through the decklist.
A Wakanda Forever deck with a lot of artifacts (and artifact creatures) will be an absolute powerhouse if it can build momentum.
This deck also generates Vibranium Tokens, an indestructible artifact that can be tapped to generate 1 colorless mana.
This deck is virtually the opposite of the Doom Prevails deck in that it is very focused on key mechanics and it's difficult to make a wrong move since almost all cards interact positively with each other.
There's definitely room for improvement, and I think you could lighten up your creatures more, such as removing unnecessary ramps or even removing the monarch mechanic entirely, and instead use additional magic or spells to really put pressure on your opponents.
This is a powerful Commander precon out of the box, but its potential after some modifications is what excites me the most.

avengers assemble
From zero to hero
I wasn't a fan of Avengers Assemble Commanders when it was first released. They seemed to be implying that there would be a rather basic Tribal deck coming out, and that it would likely be too aggressive to work with, at least considering the state the format is in.
But once I looked at the deck list, I think it's safe to say that this is the deck. very Equipped with powerful Commander precons, you won't need to change a single card to win your next Friday Night Magic event.
Most of this deck's power comes from cost scaling. Lowers the proc cost of a heroic creature and synergizes it with the Team Leader Captain America ability, granting vigilance and haste until the end of the turn, while also placing a +1/+1 counter on both the creature and Captain America.
This deck focuses on reducing colorless costs, which means you still have to pay for colored mana.
This deck has the ability to get out of control so quickly that the game is over before you can figure out how to stop it. That said, it's weak against board wipes due to its creature-heavy approach, but there are plenty of ways to protect yourself from this, even if none of the common methods like Teferi's Protection are included in the deck and will have to be added as upgrades.
Avengers Assemble has gone from the most basic and uninteresting of the four Marvel Super Heroes precons to easily the best, and it will be interesting to see if the deck's market value adjusts accordingly, or if it stagnates due to its slightly lower reprint value compared to the others.
