Six couples got engaged at Pokémon Go Fest Chicago 2026 this weekend after being selected by the Pokémon Go team for a surprise proposal experience at the event held in Grant Park.
This engagement took place during the festival, with approximately 90,000 players visiting the park and hundreds of thousands of players attending from across Chicago as part of a citywide celebration. The event marked Pokemon Go's return to Chicago for the fourth time and marked the mobile game's 10th anniversary since the first offline event launched in Chicago in 2017.
Pokemon Go Fest Chicago turns into a festival of love.
According to the Pokemon Go team, trainers submitted their stories online for a chance to be selected for a special proposal experience. Selected couples received VIP event badges, commemorative gifts, matching Umbreon and Espeon plush toys, and a surprise proposal setup that included a dedicated photographer and appearances by the Pikachu and Eevee mascots.
The proposal took place at a themed photo zone inside Go Fest. In one video shared on Instagram by WBEZ Chicago, a couple wearing Pokemon-patterned shirts pose with an Eevee before one of them pulls a ring out of a bag and proposes in front of the mascot. Social media users reacted to the moment, with commenters writing messages such as “omgggggggg I love it 😭😭😭” and “Happy Pride Month and congratulations 🌈.”
The Pokemon Go team said they were thrilled to see so many trainers wanting to share life's milestones with the gaming community.
For players unable to attend Pokémon Go Fest Chicago, Pokémon Go Fest Global will be held July 11-12 and will allow players from around the world to participate remotely.
As someone who attended this year's Pokemon Go Fest Chicago, it was truly heartwarming. Between families exploring Grant Park together, ubiquitous outfits, and amazing suggestions, the event felt like a large community gathering built around connection.
