10 Strongest Characters Who Rival Gods of Destruction, Ranked

Other than the Angels, the Gods of Destruction are the most powerful characters in the Dragon Ball Super multiverse. With very few exceptions, each God of Destruction is the single most powerful warrior in their universe, capable of destroying anyone and anything in the blink of an eye. Beerus’ introduction in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods changed the series’ power scaling forever, giving Goku and Vegeta a new benchmark to reach for.

By committing to years of training, mastering God Ki, or unlocking God-Tier forms, several Dragon Ball characters have grown powerful enough to rival the Gods of Destruction. A few rare fighters have even surpassed their universe’s Gods of Destruction, wielding newfound ultimate power. As the Dragon Ball Super manga sets up the Black Frieza Saga, the series’ main characters have never been so close to God of Destruction-tier Power Levels.

Dragon Ball Super is Finally Setting Up Goku & Vegeta’s Final Battle VS The Most Powerful God

The Dragon Ball franchise is getting fans ready for Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta’s final showdown with the ultimate warrior: Beerus.

Jiren is the Strongest Person in Universe 11

dragon-ball-super-goku-versus-jiren

Jiren is one of the most powerful mortals in Dragon Ball Super. The Pride Trooper’s strongest member and the strongest man in Universe 11, Jiren was basically unbeatable in the Tournament of Power. Jiren is confirmed to be stronger than his universe’s God of Destruction, Belmod, and wore down Universe 7’s strongest fighters during the Tournament of Power, only being eliminated by Goku, Frieza, and 17’s group effort to ring him out.

Jiren is even stronger in the Dragon Ball Super manga. In the Dragon Ball Super anime, Jiren is clearly outmatched by Ultra Instinct Goku and only wins their fight because Goku runs out of steam while using the form. This is not the case in the manga. In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Jiren outright adapts to Ultra Instinct Goku’s Power Level and eventually knocks him out of the form. The only reason Goku doesn’t lose right then and there is because Vegeta saves him from elimination.

Legendary Super Saiyan Broly’s Full Power Surpasses Most Gods

Broly is an absolute monster, and has the potential to become the strongest Saiyan in Dragon Ball. In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Broly grows so powerful after unlocking his Legendary Super Saiyan form that he quickly proves to be a serious threat to Super Saiyan Gogeta. Gogeta only manages to get the upper hand after triggering Super Saiyan Blue. Even then, Saikyo Jump confirmed Broly could have defeated Gogeta if he learned how to control his full power.

In the movie, Goku outright stated that Broly was actually stronger than Beerus, though this is suspect considering Goku hasn’t fought Beerus since Battle of Gods. As of the Dragon Ball Super manga’s Super Hero Saga epilogue, Broly has finally unlocked True Legendary Super Saiyan, a version of LSSJ that allows him to control his full power without losing his senses. Broly is also implied to be the second-strongest Saiyan following the Super Saiyan Battle Royale at the end of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103.

Ultra Instinct Moro Was the Strongest Opponent Goku Ever Fought

Ultra Instinct Moro vs Goku in the Dragon Ball Super manga

Planet Eater Moro is the main villain of the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol anime, and one of the most powerful villains Goku and Vegeta have ever fought in the Dragon Ball Super manga. During his final battle with Moro, Goku calls him the toughest person he’s ever met, which is an incredible feat considering Goku would be comparing him to Beerus, Hit, Fused Zamasu, Kefla, Jiren, and Broly.

Near the end of the arc, Moro absorbs the Angel Merus’ powers and unlocks Ultra Instinct, becoming stronger than the Gods. Ultra Instinct Moro is strong and fast enough to perfectly keep up with Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku as they battle across the globe. Even after his body rejects Ultra Instinct, Moro quickly fuses himself to the Earth and grows even stronger as he absorbs the energy of every living thing on the planet.

Granolah Has the Powers of a Destroyer After His Wish

The second story arc Dragon Ball Super 2 will adapt is the Granolah the Survivor Saga, a fan-favorite saga that’ll flesh out Bardock’s backstory, debut a brand-new transformation for Vegeta, and introduce some of the most powerful characters in Dragon Ball history. After gathering Planet Cereal’s Dragon Balls, Granolah wishes to become the most powerful warrior in Universe 7.

Doing so reduces his lifespan so that he only has three years to live, but the trade-off is ultimate power. Granolah gains access to some of the most overpowered abilities in the universe, including Hakai. During the saga, Granolah manages to defeat both Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta, nearly killing both in their fights. While Granolah is ultimately surpassed by the end of the arc, he’s still one of the strongest fighters in Universe 7, with power rivaling the Gods.

Awakened Gas is One of the Most Dangerous Villains in Dragon Ball History

Awakened Gas vs Granolah

After Granolah uses the Dragon Balls to become the strongest mortal in Universe 7, the Heeter Elec gets the idea to visit Cereal, gather the Dragon Balls himself, and make his own wish. Rather than wishing for himself to be the ultimate warrior, he wishes for his brother Gas to become the strongest person in Universe 7. His wish, however, is worded such so that Gas will always surpass anyone who surpasses him in Universe 7, trading his life force in the process.

By the end of the Granolah the Survivor Saga, Gas has gotten so powerful, that he’s essentially become an old man on the cusp of death. Like Granolah, Gas has access to powerful techniques like Hakai and is virtually indestructible. It takes a combined effort from Goku, Vegeta, and Granolah just to keep up with Gas. Gas is only killed in the end because Frieza was outside Universe 7 at the time of Elec’s wish, so Gas’ body does not respond to Black Frieza’s Power Level.

Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku is Quickly Catching Up to Beerus

Goku first triggered Ultra Instinct during the Tournament of Power, and his mastery of the transformation has only improved since. Dragon Ball Super 2 will dedicate a lot of time to Goku finally mastering Perfected Ultra Instinct, making him one of the strongest fighters in the multiverse. Not only will Goku learn to tap into Ultra Instinct whenever he wants, he’ll be able to astral project his Ki and stack his Super Saiyan forms on top of UI.

By the end of the Dragon Ball Super manga’s Super Hero Saga, Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku has easily reached God of Destruction levels of power. He’s known how to use Hakai since the Goku Black Saga, but he doesn’t need to resort to destructive attacks to overpower his foes. Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku has unmatched power, speed, defense, and reflexes that’ll make him a real challenge to beat once he and Beerus eventually get their final rematch.

Ultra Ego Vegeta is Beerus’ Greatest Disciple

picture: ultra ego vegeta, the background in the ruins of the cereal planet.

Now that Vegeta’s unlocked Ultra Ego in the Dragon Ball Super manga, he’s gotten closer than ever to finally rivaling Beerus. Vegeta has become a God of Destroyer in everything but the actual title, mastering Hakai to the point of channeling destructive energy into a transformation comparable to Toppo’s literal Destroyer Form from the Tournament of Power. Ultra Ego gives Vegeta an enormous power boost that rivals Perfected Ultra Instinct, at minimum.

On top of the power boost, Ultra Ego makes Vegeta stronger the longer that he fights and the more damage that he takes. The only downside to Ultra Ego is that Vegeta can’t fully guage how much damage he takes, so he keeps exhausting himself against his foes. Once Vegeta masters Ultra Ego, he’ll easily surpass Goku – especially now that Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero has confirmed that his base Power Level is already slightly higher than his rival’s.

3

Gohan Beast is Powerful Enough to Replace Beerus as U7’s Destroyer

Gohan has always had more potential than just about every being in the Dragon Ball universe, but slacking off in-between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super resulted in him losing a lot of the power he had at the end of the Majin Buu Saga. Training with Piccolo for the Tournament of Power finally re-awakened his inner warrior, and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero pushed Gohan into unlocking his ultimate transformation: Beast.

Gohan Beast is the most powerful Z-Fighter in Dragon Ball Super right now. He was the only character strong enough to kill Cell Max, was powerful enough to knock Goku out of Perfected Ultra Instinct, triggered Broly to unlock True Legendary Super Saiyan with his raw might, and is implied to have won the Super Saiyan Battle Royale in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103. Whis even considers Gohan a viable candidate to replacing Beerus as U7’s God of Destruction before Beerus shuts the idea down.

2

Black Frieza is the Most Powerful Mortal in the Entire Multiverse

Gohan Beast may be the strongest Z-Fighter, but Black Frieza is the strongest mortal in the Dragon Ball multiverse currently. During the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, Frieza leaves Universe 7 and begins exploring the multiverse. On his travels, he finds a Hyperbolic Time Chamber that he decides to train inside for an entire decade. During his training, Frieza grows tremendously powerful, unlocking his Black form in the process.

Black Frieza is unprecedentedly powerful. In his first and only appearance, Black Frieza easily kills Awakened Gas with one blow before effortlessly defeating True Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta. At the moment, Black Frieza is so powerful, he’s a legitimate threat to the Gods. Don’t be surprised if Beerus has to ultimately fight Black Frieza in the Dragon Ball Super manga. At this rate, the God of Destruction might even lose.

Gogeta & Vegito Are God-Tier Fusions Who Rival Beerus

gogeta-vegito
Gogeta and Vegito from Dragon Ball

Whis has been saying for years that Goku and Vegeta have the potential to battle Beerus so long as they work together, and nothing proves him right more than the existence of their Fusions. Gogeta and Vegito are two of the most powerful beings in the entire multiverse. Super Saiyan Blue Vegito is so strong, the Potara Earrings can’t even contain his raw power without defusing him within minutes. On the flip side, Gogeta has no time limit drawbacks other than his basic half-hour timer.

At full power, Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta is strong enough to cause a literal dimension break that shatters the fabric of space and time. In Akira Toriyama’s original draft for Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Gogeta is powerful enough to battle on the surface of the sun with no issues whatsoever. It’s heavily implied that Gogeta already has more than enough power to not only battle Beerus evenly, but actually defeat him. If Gogeta manages to unlock Ultra Instinct or Ultra Ego – or both –, there’s just no chance any God of Destruction would be able to stop him.
