xbox The company has released a new Gamerscore feature that may leave fans disappointed, but it doesn't include one thing they've been asking for since 2008. Xbox's new system may be a cool new way for fans to show off their Gamerscore accumulations, but it's definitely not a Platinum Trophy.
Xbox Achievements were introduced with the Xbox 360 in 2005, and with it the Xbox Gamerscore system, which drastically changed the way fans interact with games. The system has become so popular among Xbox owners that Valve, Sony, and even Apple have taken different variations on the concept and incorporated the achievements into their own platforms. PlayStation's famous Platinum Trophy, awarded to fans who collect all trophies in a single game, has long been the envy of many players. Xbox will show the game as 100% complete, but there are no achievements associated with it, and if you add achievements to the game later, the 100% status may be lost.

There's a change coming to Xbox Challenges, but it's not the change we wanted.
Xbox's new cloud gaming interface brings notable changes to the achievement system, but they're not what gamers are expecting.
Xbox's Gamerscore badges are great, but there's only one thing fans want.
Microsoft's latest update to the Xbox achievement system comes in the form of a tiered gamerscore tracking system that rewards players with badges at specific stages. As detailed in a recent Xbox Wire post, badges start small, one for every few thousand Gamerscore, all the way up to the final level, which requires a whopping 10 million Gamerscore and features a decorated badge. So far, no one has reached 10 million Gamerscore points, but a few dedicated people have amassed an impressive 8.5 million points each and continue to rise. As of now, the maximum for the badge is 10 million Gamerscore, and it doesn't look like Xbox will need more than that anytime soon. Plus, Xbox Insiders can instantly deck out their profiles with these new badges.

Additionally, this console update for Xbox Insiders introduces a new boot experience that features animations and sounds along with a new Xbox logo. Fans can also expect to find a “Game Access” filter that will allow them to see which games they own, which games are shared, and which games are installed on their Xbox but can no longer access. These features will be especially useful for fans who still have games installed that have left Xbox Game Pass.
This update comes a month after Xbox's previous patch, which gave achievements a shiny new look, but some gamers may still want more. It's hard to ignore how many gamers love PlayStation's Platinum Trophy, and how many Xbox fans are clamoring for a similar feature. The most disappointing thing about Xbox's current achievement system is that gamers can go through all the trouble of getting 100% on a game, but then the game gets broken when post-launch DLC adds new achievements. In comparison, the Platinum Trophy has no such restrictions. To make matters worse, PS5 games released on Xbox also have Platinum trophies.
Xbox fans are still waiting for some sort of new status symbol to indicate that the game was fully completed at some point, but isn't there now. But that doesn't mean this update to the Xbox Gamerscore system isn't neat in some ways. At the end of the day, trophies, gamerscore, and achievements are merely measures of a fan's devotion to a game for bragging rights. Well, it's always nice to have a new way to show off every trophy or Gamerscore you've earned to other gamers and friends.
