[Update 5/8: As of 2:07 PM PST, Discord appears to be back up and running normally. The original story follows.]
fluoride It is currently unavailable to millions of users who regularly use online messaging services. The social platform that allows people around the world to communicate through text, voice, and video has been around since 2015, and in that time has grown into a preferred service for many people. As of 2026, Discord boasts approximately 260 million monthly active users, with more than twice that number of registered users, and a whopping 37% of people between the ages of 18 and 34 are estimated to actively use the platform.
To keep up with the huge number of users each month, Discord has over 32 million servers around the world. The service is available on a variety of platforms, including web browsers and separate apps for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and Linux. Gaming spaces are a place to meet like-minded people who are passionate about the same titles and developers. It serves as an active place to play, build community, make friends, and easily connect.

“We want to make this right” Discord delays launch of controversial age verification
Days before Discord was set to begin enforcing its divisive age verification measures globally, the company announced a delay due to user backlash.
Discord server status
At the time of writing, the Discord server is down. When I try to access the service from a web browser, I get an error screen saying “Something went wrong!” The official apps on various platforms load with a message about an API error and the statement, “We are continuing to address an issue that is impacting availability for some Discord users.” Some users report that the normal interface loads after waiting for a few minutes, but switching to another server is problematic and uncertain.
We will update this post as soon as Discord service is fully restored.
