Shackled God is a late-game side quest in Crimson Desert that requires you to venture to a distant island, where you’ll find dozens of Aeserion’s Scales, along with their source, a powerful serpent-like creature named Aeserion.
While you can choose to collect Aeserion’s Scales and be on your way, this creature has a request for you. While the journey is difficult, it will lead to a wealth of powerful rewards you’ll want to add to your arsenal, including some of the best earrings in Crimson Desert, as well as the Aeserion Sword.
How To Start The Shackled God Quest
Venture to Serpent Shrine, which is southwest of Three Brothers’ Cliff in the Dewhaven territory, where you’ll find a large battalion of soldiers firing projectiles at a massive serpent.
Glide over to the Serpent Shrine, where you’ll see just how massive Aeserion is.
Avoid the projectiles of the soldiers and the lightning strikes and stand on the altar to hear Aeserion’s tale.
Once the giant serpent finishes his story, you’ll be prompted to hunt down the three ancients responsible for imprisoning Aeserion on this island:
- Praevus
- Priscus
- Primus

How To Prepare To Fight The Ancients
Bringing tons of food and as many Palmar Pills as possible will help make these fights against the ancients easier. However, it’s equally important to invest in your skills and gear, as they’ll play a key role in your success.
Here are the skills you should prepare:
- Turning Slash (Stamina)
- Focus (Spirit)
- Nature’s Snare 3/3 (Spirit)
- Force Palm (Spirit)
- Keen Senses (Spirit)
- Evasive Roll (Spirit)
- Marksmanship (Stamina)
- Evasive Shot 3/3 (Stamina)
- Stamina Lv. 9+
- Health Lv. 5+
- Spirit Lv. 5+
These are the minimum values for your Stamina, Health, and Spirit to avoid one-shots.
You should prepare a powerful bow build for these flying enemies, as melee alone won’t be enough to get things done. Crafting the Infinite Arrows Abyss Gear will be a huge help in trivializing these fights when combined with Explosive Arrows.
However, having a powerful melee weapon in your back pocket for when the bosses are stunned will help to speed up these encounters and ensure your survival.
This equipment will help you in your fights against the ancients:
-
The Leather Helm of the Fallen Kingdom
- Increases your Turning Slash damage by 35 percent to maximize your stun damage in these fights.
-
Plate Cloak of the Shadows
- Offers Lv. 7 Fire Resistance for the battle against Praevus.
-
Dark Marksman Plate Cloak
- A solid alternative if you don’t have the Plate Cloak of the Shadows
-
The Frozen Anguish Sword
- Stamina Siphon Lv. 1 will help you keep inflicting damage thanks to the replenished stamina.
-
Golden-Knotted Ancestral Bow
- The perfect candidate to accept Infinite Arrows Abyss Gears and inflict plenty of damage while stunning the Ancients.
Once you complete the preparations we’ve outlined, you’ll be ready to defeat the three Ancients for the Shackled God quest.
How To Beat Praevus The Ancient
When you arrive at Fallen Abyss, southwest of Tashkalp and the Crimson Desert, the boss will spawn a group of fiery, exploding mines around the battlefield.
Your first order of business should be to destroy all of these floating mines as quickly as possible.
Nature’s Snare is a good bet for dealing with his flame-imbued projectile attacks.
However, this is not always reliable since the projectiles can explode next to you, dealing splash damage.
The best strategy is to skirt around the edge of the map, avoiding the fiery floor and maintaining mobility and health to survive the boss’s hits.
Use Focused Shot by aiming, pressing LS + RS / L3 + R3, then tag Praevus with RB/R1 to fill up his stagger bar and drop him to the ground.
Use this window to attack using a powerful two-handed sword and deal a sizable chunk of damage to the boss.
Rinse and repeat this strategy until he goes down.
You’ll receive the following as a reward for your victory:
- Memory of Ancient Nature – A treasure that grants knowledge of all gatherables.
- Ancient Earring
- Ancient Wrath Abyss Gear
- Abyss Artifact
How To Beat Priscus The Ancient
Priscus, the Ancient can be found in the basement of the Spire of Ringing Truth, which is located west of the ‘P’ in ‘Pailune’, northeast of the Upper Nas River.
You must climb the tower, then let the bell at the top loose by shooting an arrow at the spot above it, which will open a hole into Priscus’s boss arena.
When you arrive, Priscus will immediately attack, and just like the other bosses, he is flying high above you.
Using a powerful bow build is essential to these fights and will make them much more manageable.
Nature’s Snare will be key again in this fight, as it will allow you to counter the boss’s array of ranged shots.
Activate Focus, then rotate your RS to use Nature’s Snare and redirect the shots at Priscus by aiming at him and pressing RS/R3 to unleash them.
- Leave focus and run away if the boss raises his hand to create a set of swirling darkness around you, as these pools will appear on the floor around you and do damage.
- After avoiding his shots, unleash a hail of Explosive Arrows using your bow to increase his stun meter and bring him to the ground.
- Avoid any of the multi-shot shadow attacks by dodging and spamming arrows as much as possible.
- Use food to heal ASAP if Priscus dive bombs you for massive damage.
Just like the last fight, be sure to hit Priscus with a Turning Slash while he’s stunned, dealing massive damage to the boss.
Rinse and repeat your dodging, bows, and Turning Slash pattern until this difficult boss goes down.
With Priscus defeated, you’ll receive the following rewards:
- Abyss Artifact
- Ancient Necklace – Restore 0.1 Spirit every second
- Ancient Retribution Abyss Gear
- The Blessing of the Immortal — A one-time-use treasure that makes you invincible for ten seconds.
How To Beat Primus The Ancient
Primus is located at Arrowhead Rock in the Dewhaven territory, directly north of Serpent Shrine, where you received this quest from Aeserion, northwest of Three Brothers’ Cliff.
Approach the center of the verdant ruins, and Primus will reveal himself, beginning the fight.
Primus is similar to the other two ancient fights in both potency and evasiveness, so we’ll be sticking with the Explosive Arrow bow strategy, since it builds up his stun meter while dealing significant damage.
Use your Focus ability to slow things down at the start and see if Primus is readying missiles to fire at you. If he does, use Nature’s Snare and send them back; otherwise, dodge to create distance and unleash your arrows.
Once you stun the boss once and connect with a Turning Slash, immediately hit him with up to three Force Palm attacks to fill up his stun meter partially and lower his defense for more attacks.
Back away quickly if Primus winds up a ground slam after being stuck.
One cycle of this should have Primus at about 60 percent health.
Avoid Primus’ whirlwind attack, as this will send you up in the air as he unleashes a hail of golden projectiles at you, leaving you vulnerable.
If you get launched, dive back to the ground while spamming food to avoid dying to Primus’s projectiles.
You can also draw your bow and hit Primus with Arrows using Focused Shot, if he’s close to being stunned, but this is very risky.
Dodge or use Nature’s Snare to redirect Primus’s projectiles, then finish filling up the stun meter with more arrows to bring him to the ground again.
Repeat this process once more, dodging his projectiles and dive bombs, and the final Ancient will be defeated.
You’ll receive the following items for defeating Primus:
- Abyss Artifact
- Ancient Wrath Abyss Gear
- Sage’s Eye – A treasure that permanently increases how fast you learn knowledge.
- Ancient Ring – 2 attack, 1 attack speed, 2 percent stamina regeneration.
How To Remove Bismuth Emitters To Cleanse Aeserion
With the ancients defeated, you must now return to Aeserion at Serpent Shrine and cleanse the cores binding Aeserion.
To do this, you have to destroy the large Bismuth Emitters on his back. Find each spot, then use Focused Force Palm (Hold RS while in Focus) to purify each area.
Charge up your Focused Force Palm from a distance and unleash it when aiming at the green areas where the Bismuth Emitter was before you destroyed it.
It’s best not to stand on Aeserion’s back when it’s electrified.
You’ll know you’re close enough to cleanse the cores when they glow a bright yellow before you unleash the Focused Force Palm.
You can use the pillars to hit these from above, as being on the ground doesn’t always work.
After you’ve hit at least one, and Aeserion’s back is no longer electrified, you can hop on it and get closer, making this process easier.
After you break three emitters and use Focused Force Palm on the three main cores, Aeserion will be freed.
What Rewards Do You Get From Completing Shackled God?
Once you’ve completed this, you’ll be treated to a cutscene and then receive your reward:
-
Aeserion Sword
- 22 Attack
- Refinement Lv. 5
- Three available Abyss Gear slots
While this sword doesn’t come with a special Abyss Gear, you have plenty of room to mix-and-match options from the variety of rewards you received during this quest.
