Targeted collection of Pokemon is being scalped on eBay

In case you missed it, Pokemon is celebrating its massive 30th anniversary this year. This means that beyond the typical video games and trading cards, everyone and their mother has some sort of partnership with the brand, often involving merchandise or collectibles.

Uniqlo is kicking things off by resurrecting the “Fat Pikachu” of the underworld for a collaboration, while high-end pinball machine manufacturer Stern Pinball is making some rather fancy and expensive pinball cabinets.

Two Nintendo Switch 2 consoles featuring Pokémon Firered and Leafgreen.

Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen The old-school trick of local co-op trading made me realize that I only had online gamer friends.

GameFreak is sending me down memory lane by forcing me to beg for local Pokemon trades.

US retailer Target recently launched a major collection that includes everything from clothing to collectible cups and themed Pop Tarts. Unfortunately, if you're reading this right now, most of the “cool” stuff is sold out, and in the case of Pop-Tarts, they're currently being scalped on eBay.

Yes, you read that right. A box of Pop Tarts is now suddenly an expensive collector's item.

I hope you weren't planning on buying Pokemon Pop Tarts.

On Target's website, a limited edition box of Pokemon x Pop-Tarts sells for $2.99. It has since sold out. Have no fear, as most of the stock has naturally flowed to eBay.

There's no shortage of boxes of Pop-Tarts on eBay looking for new homes, albeit at prices that will make you smile.

One such person wants to sell four boxes for $100 plus shipping. Another one is $79.99.

Of course, not everyone is as unrealistic as those friends. Some listings are as low as $12.95 and have free shipping. That's generous considering Low ultimately sold for $2.99.

A question arises: What's the point? Suppose he sells it for 12.95. They still have to fork out for shipping and handling, gas, and return time, and that's not even counting eBay fees, which are much higher than they used to be.

According to the eBay fee calculator, if you add $12.95 plus an estimated shipping cost of less than $5 plus the original item cost of $2.99 plus eBay's own cut, your total profit is $3.06.

I'm no mathematician, but that's not good.

Plus, this is just a regular Pop Tart with a Pikachu in the package. There is literally, I mean literally, nothing special about them. When Pokemon and Pop-Tarts first teamed up, the pastries had themed Pokemon sprinkles.

These are not like that.

If this is how the Pop Tart collaboration goes, I shudder to think what would happen if Pokemon and Heinz ketchup were combined, as mentioned earlier.
