In a departure from the standard console exclusive norm, Xbox's next-gen VP shared that the AMD-powered Project Helix will not only play standard Xbox console games, but will also be able to play PC games as well. To the delight of many Xbox fans, it looks like these consoles will soon be in the hands of developers, as Microsoft has revealed that development kits will begin shipping in 2027. However, it has been a difficult time for consumers when it comes to technology and console pricing. The current AI craze has led to memory shortages, resulting in soaring prices on store shelves. In response, newer consoles like the Xbox Series X and PS5 have had to increase their prices to maintain market viability.

Xbox's Project Helix can't escape the hardware market situation
Xbox's outlook on the current state of the market does not indicate that Project Helix can escape the current hardware market. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed that memory costs will impact both the price and availability of the next-generation Xbox consoles. Sharma's statement comes from a Game File interview with Stephen Totilo regarding the launch of the next-gen Xbox and the transition between the current-gen Xbox Series X and S. However, it doesn't seem like players should necessarily expect the worst from the price of Project Helix on Xbox, at least for now. Sharma says Xbox's top priority is building a great console for playing PC games, and the dynamic world situation makes pricing, availability and release timing seem like secondary thoughts at the moment.
All of these are equations. Memory costs affect price and availability. We will consider that when we think about being where the world plays. Therefore, we are not ready to share a release schedule right now. The world is pretty dynamic. But what I'm most focused on is focusing on what we can control and making great consoles that play great games, including PC games.
Additionally, the topic of the release of Project Helix was also brought up in the interview, but unfortunately, little is known yet about when Xbox's next console will be released. Despite some speculation at Game File that the next Xbox could be released as early as next year, Sharma is still keeping Project Helix's release window a secret. Instead, the Xbox CEO reiterated that the development kit will be released next year and that early feedback about the upcoming console has been exciting for the Xbox team.
