Black Ops 3: Moon Main Easter Egg Guide (2026)
Richtofen’s Grand Scheme awaits on Moon, a Black Ops and Black Ops 3 Zombies map that features an easter egg which we’ve got the steps for right here.
Origins Easter Egg Step-by-Step Overview
- Step #1: Secure the keys.
- Step #2: Ascend from darkness.
- Step #3: Rain fire.
- Step #4: Unleash the horde.
- Step #5: Skewer the winged beast.
- Step #6: Wield a fist of iron.
- Step #7: Raise hell.
- Step #8: Freedom.
Most of the Origins easter egg involves building and upgrading 4 Elemental Staffs. As such, you can do these steps in any order. We started with the Wind Staff, as you’ll want a staff before the Panzersoldat on Round 8.
Step #1: Grab the Gramophone and Black Disc
Head through No Man’s Land and enter the top of the mound where Pack-a-Punch is located. Down the stairs in Excavation, you’ll find the Gramophone by the table. For the Black Disc, it has a chance to spawn at any of these three locations:
- By the generator on a box that leads to the Excavation stairs.
- Inside a barrel of 115, to the left of Pack-a-Punch.
- On a wall by some crates to the left, by the path that leads to the Church.
Once you have both the Disc and the Gramophone, interact with the table below the stairs from Pack-a-Punch to unlock the secret area where you can craft the staffs.
Step #2: Unlock the G-Strike Grenades
Head right of the spawn to find a bunker by Generator 2. Inside the bunker, you can find a table containing four stone tablets, each with a fist on it. Interact with one to pick it up, where you can now place it in the water fountain inside the Church.
You will need to get around 20+ melee kills around the water, and then you can pick the stone tablet back up, where it will now be cleaned. The next step involves returning the stone tablet to the bunker, but without stepping on mud, which can be achieved by following the path left of the Church across wooden beams and dry dirt.
Once you return to the bunker, interact with the table to place the stone tablet, where you will then want to get 20+ melee kills. This will then spawn the G-Strike Grenades, which you will need for a later step in the easter egg, but it’s good to get out of the way now.
Step #3: Unlock the One-Inch Punch
There are 4 Soul Boxes around the map, and each of them requires 30 kills to fill. If one of the Giant Robots steps on the box, then that specific box resets (unless you’ve already gotten 30 kills at that box). Therefore, you should do one box at a time:
- To the left of Generator 5.
- To the left of the Excavation Site.
- Behind Generator 4.
- Before the entrance of the Church.
After you have filled all 4 Soul Boxes, you can head to the Rituals of the Ancients Box by Generator 6 (outside the Church) and interact with the bottom icon to pick up the One-Inch Punch.
Step #4: Craft the Maxis Drone
- You will always find the Maxis Brain part on a table in the spawn area.
The Maxis Frame has three possible spawns:
- Inside the Ice Tunnel, by Generator 6.
- By the skull and crossbones signs on the Tank path that leads from the Church to Generator 4.
- By the skull and crossbones signs on the Tank path that leads from Generator 5 to the Church.
The Maxis Rotors also have three possible spawns:
- By the GobbleGum Machine near Pack-a-Punch on top of the mound.
- By the electrical unit below the stairs from Pack-a-Punch.
- On the bottom scaffolding inside the mound, beneath Pack-a-Punch.
With all three Maxis Drone parts acquired, you can now craft this essential item at the workbench in the Church. The Maxis Drone, G-Strike, and One-Inch Punch will all become vital parts of the easter egg later!
Step #5: Build the Wind Staff
To begin, you must find the Yellow Disc, which has three different spawns, all around Generator 5 (Stamin-Up):
- By the wall to the right of Stamin-Up.
- To the left of Stamin-Up, leaning on three crates outside.
- On the workbench inside the Lightning Tunnel, beneath Generator 5.
There are 3 Giant Robots that walk through the map at random times, and each of these robots contains a part of the Wind Staff. To enter the Giant Robot, stand under its glowing yellow foot and shoot it so you can grab the part. Here’s the path of each robot:
- Freya walks through the Church (left).
- Odin walks through the Excavation (middle).
- Thor walks through the spawn (right).
Finally, enter the Wind Tunnel from Generator 4 and access the Crazy Place with the gramophone, and you can then pick up a yellow crystal from the yellow altar. Once acquired, head to the mound in Excavation and craft the Wind Staff at the Richtofen statue.
Step #6: Upgrade the Wind Staff
With the Wind Staff now acquired, you can return to the Crazy Place and look up above the yellow teleporter to find a bunch of unique symbols. There are 4 dials, and you must shoot them with the Wind Staff to make the symbols match the pattern that we have shown above.
Back on the surface, you will now find three smokestacks, and you need to shoot them with the Wind Staff so that they’re blowing smoke in the direction of the Excavation Site:
- By Generator 4.
- Outside the map, on the Tank’s return journey to the Church.
- Behind Stamin-Up at Generator 5.
You can now return to the mound and interact with four levers that will rotate the central dial, which you need to do until all symbols are yellow. After, you can shoot the yellow orb under the dials with the Wind Staff.
Finally, head back to the Crazy Place to place the Wind Staff on the yellow altar, where you can then kill 20+ zombies near the altar to charge it so it becomes the upgraded variant.
Since you need to craft all four staffs, make sure you’re putting each staff back in its slot underneath the mound before you attempt to build a new staff.
Step #7: Build the Lightning Staff
The Lightning Staff is one of the easiest and fastest to acquire. To begin, you will want to locate the Purple Disc, which has 3 potential spawns, and they are all around Generator 4:
- On a wooden cart to the left of Generator 4.
- On the table just next to Der Wunderfizz and Jugger-Nog.
- At the bottom of the Wind Tunnel.
There are now three parts you need to collect from the Lightning Staff, and each of these parts can be acquired by riding the Tank that’s underneath the Church. You’ll want to take the Tank, jump off, grab the part, and jump back on. Here’s the path to take:
- Look to the right on your way to Generator 2 to find a walkway you can jump to, and follow it across to grab the first part.
- On the way past Excavation, look left and once you see the MP-40 wall-buy, jump up the wooden walkway and grab the next part.
- On the tank, watch the right side and jump up the dirt path that leads back to the Church to find the final part.
With all three parts and the purple disc, head to the Lightning Tunnel by Generator 5 and use the gramophone to enter the Crazy Place, where you can then grab the purple crystal from the purple pedestal. You can now take this crystal to the bottom of the mound to build the Lightning Staff at the Dempsey statue.
Step #8: Upgrade the Lightning Staff
With the Lightning Staff, head back to the Crazy Place, where you’ll find 7 purple nodes on the wall by the teleporter. You will need to shoot the bottom row of these nodes in a specific order with the Lightning Staff:
You will now need to return to the surface, where you must interact with 7 electrical panels located around the map, so that the dial on each is facing a specific direction:
- Spawn Electrical Unit: Dial must face left.
- Generator 2 Electrical Unit: Dial must face down.
- Excavation Electrical Unit: Dial must face up.
- Generator 4 Electrical Unit: Dial must face up.
- Generator 5 Electrical Unit: Dial must face down.
- Bottom Church Electrical Unit: Dial must face right.
- Top Church Electrical Unit: Dial must face up.
Doing so correctly will see a beam of light shoot through the Excavation Site. You can now rotate four levers in the Mound so that the four dials are all purple. This will spawn a purple orb below, which can be shot with the Lightning Staff.
Finally, return to the Crazy Place and put the Lightning Staff in the purple altar. You will need to kill 20+ zombies near the altar to charge it, then it’s yours to collect again.
Step #9: Build the Ice Staff
The Ice Staff requires the Blue Disc, which will spawn in one of three locations inside the Bunker by Generator 2:
- On a shelf by the Mystery Box.
- On a shelf to the right of the stone tablet table.
- On the table when you first enter from Generator 2.
To collect the Ice Staff parts, you will need to wait for it to start snowing on the map, which has a random chance of occurring every round and until that round ends. To begin, acquire a Shovel, which is found to the left of the wall-buy in spawn.
When it begins snowing, simply use the Shovel to interact with the dirt piles to dig up the Wind Staff parts, which are located around Generator 6, the Church, Generator 5, Generator 4, No Man’s Land, Generator 2, and Generator, and remember, only when it’s snowing!
With all three Ice Staff Parts, you can access the Crazy Place from the Ice Tunnel by the Church. Enter, grab the blue crystal from the blue altar, and craft the Ice Staff at the Takeo statue in the mound.
Step #10: Upgrade the Ice Staff
Head back to the Crazy Place with the Ice Staff and look at the blue teleporter, where you will see unique symbols on both the ceiling and the walls. The objective here is to use the Ice Staff to shoot specific tiles on the ceiling that correspond with the symbol on the wall. We’ve attached a cheat sheet above that translates the wall tile to the ceiling tile.
Once completed, return to the surface, where you can then find three graves. Each grave can be shot with the Ice Staff to freeze them, then shot with a regular gun to destroy them. Here’s where to find each grave:
- By the Giant Robot’s hand behind the Tank Station.
- By the Giant Robot footprint by Excavation.
- By the Giant Robot footprint by Generator 4.
Like the other staff upgrades, head back to the mound and use the 4 levers so that the dials are all showing blue symbols, then use the Ice Staff to shoot the blue orb.
Make your way to the Crazy Place and insert the Ice Staff into the blue altar, where you can get 20+ kills at the altar to upgrade the Ice Staff.
Step #11: Build the Fire Staff
The Fire Staff can be crafted once you obtain the Red Disc, which is located around the Church area towards Generator 6:
- Between the Tank and the staircase in the downstairs area of the Church.
- On a bench to the left of the upstairs area of the Church.
- On a box just before Generator 6, by a corpse.
You can now begin obtaining all three Fire Staff parts, which all have unique requirements that we’ll list below:
- Part #1: Activate Generator 6 and interact with the Rituals of the Ancients chest just to the right of the generator.
- Part #2: Look to the sky above the Excavation area, and you’ll see a glowing plane that can be shot down to drop a part in the Excavation Site.
- Part #3: This drops from the Panzersoldat, who will spawn on Round 8.
The Fire Tunnel is found in the basement area by the spawn (Laboratory from Generator 3), and you can enter the Crazy Place from here to acquire the red crystal at the red altar. Return to the mound to craft the Fire Staff from the Nikolai statue.
Step #12: Upgrade the Fire Staff
With the Fire Staff, head back to the Crazy Place. By the red fire teleporter, you’ll see that the ground is grates, lit by fire. You will need to kill zombies on the grates with the Fire Staff to light four cauldrons, and once all four have been lit, you can leave the Crazy Place.
Enter the Church’s upstairs area, and on the wall, you’ll see four glowing symbols, each representing a number. Each of these symbols will correspond with a number underneath a torch found in the Church basement. The goal is to quickly shoot your 4 torches with the Fire Staff that correspond with the symbols. Above, we’ve attached a cheat sheet to help you translate your symbols.
If your number is “4” then it’s the bloodstain!
After, you can return to the mound underneath Pack-a-Punch and pull the four levers until each rotated dial shows a red symbol. Finally, shoot the Red Orb with the Fire Staff and return to the Crazy Place to deposit the Fire Staff on the red altar, and get 20+ kills to upgrade it.
Step #13: Place Each Upgraded Staff in Their Specific Pedestals
- Place the Fire Staff in the middle pedestal in front of the four statues in the mound.
- Place the Ice Staff inside the Freya Giant Robot (left side of the map).
- Place the Wind Staff inside the Odin Giant Robot (middle of the map).
- Place the Lightning Staff inside the Thor Giant Robot (right side of the map).
Feel free to head back to the Excavation Site and pick up your favorite Staff after this step!
Step #14: Use G-Strikes & the Maxis Drone to Unleash the Horde
Now that all Elemental Staffs have been placed in their pedestals, the three Giant Robots will walk together across the map. You will need to wait around Generator 5 for the middle robot, where you can then shoot its foot and enter. Inside the robot, the front desk has a red button you can press.
After pressing the button and leaving the Giant Robot, run to the right side of Generator 5. You will need to throw a G-Strike at the ice floor outside of the map (shown above). The G-Strike will destroy the hole, and you can then call the Maxis Drone into the hole.
Doing so will spawn a heap of Panzersoldats, so get ready for an intense fight!
Step #15: Get Zombie Blood and Skewer the Winged Beast
Once you have the Zombie Blood Power-Up, you will be able to see a glowing plane in the sky above Excavation. You need to shoot down the plane, and a zombie will now be running clockwise around the Excavation Site. You can only see this zombie with Zombie Blood, and killing him will drop the Maxis Drone for you to pick up.
Despite picking up the Maxis Drone, you will still need to go to where you originally built it to pick it back up, as you will need it for the final step.
Step #16: Upgrade the One-Inch Punch to Wield a Fist of Iron
Head to the bottom of the mound where the statues are located. Zombies will begin to spawn here, and they will have a glowing mist around them. You need to use the One-Inch Punch melee strikes to kill 20+ of these zombies.
The final zombie kill will drop a stone tablet that you can pick up, which will upgrade the One-Inch Punch into the Iron Fist, which completes this step, leaving just two more to go.
Step #17: Place the Staffs in the Crazy Place to Raise Hell
You must now obtain the four elemental staffs you released earlier and take each of them to the Crazy Place. Each staff must be placed on its corresponding altar in the Crazy Place, and doing so will see you raise hell with the countless zombies you need to kill.
Step #18: Deploy the Maxis Drone and Experience Freedom
After over 100 zombies have been killed, your screen will flash white. You can now look up and see a portal in the sky. You will need to deploy the Maxis Drone so it enters the portal, which sends down a blue laser that you can enter to end the game and enter the cutscene.
