On April 10, 2025, Honkai Star Rail's official X (formerly Twitter) account released a new trailer titled “Afternoon Death”. It's called a 'concept trailer' and features several characters from Honkai Star Rail. The trailer is almost three minutes long and features excellent animation. The video contains many action sequences, highlighting the abilities of various characters. Overall, the trailer is of incredible quality and is a friendly reminder of the proficiency of the MAPPA staff.
The trailer has sparked a lot of speculation within the fan base. Many fans believe this is a sign that Honkai Star Rail may make a big announcement for its third anniversary, which takes place on April 26, 2026. This could be an in-game event or a new animation project. The latter would be a solid guess. After all, Genshin Impact has already announced an anime in production by ufotable (Demon Slayer).

Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that MAPPA will be responsible for the Honkai Star Rail animation work. However, this is just speculation and neither MAPPA nor Honkai Star Rail accounts have revealed any further details. Once the anime is confirmed, Honkai Star Rail fans will be hoping it doesn't get the same treatment as the Genshin Impact project that ufotable is working on.
