Baldur's Gate 3 is a creator's dream. The game is very open and versatile, with so many options that even those who want to tweak and expand the mod can easily do so. That's why players have created over 17,000 pieces of game content in the two and a half years since launch. These can range from simple tweaks to new classes and even full custom campaigns.
One such monster is the Baldur's Gate 3 Act 2 Expansion, which plans to radically change the middle part of the game. Unfortunately, despite planning for parts of the game to be playable in early 2026, the creators now say it's highly unlikely that anything will be available until the second half of the year.
Baldur's Gate 3 Act 2 Expansion Pack Delayed
The Baldur's Gate 3 Act 2 expansion pack is a massive project. There are plans to add a new area to the second act of Baldur's Gate 3, accessible after the Shadow-Cursed Lands, and will feature new areas, NPCs, dungeons, quests, encounters, and more. “The main goal of this project is to give players an entirely new region similar in scope to the Act 1 Wilderness,” says creator SquallyDaBeanz.
Last year, Squally announced that the mode had been delayed until 2026, with hopes of having something playable early on. It has now been postponed to the second half of the year.
“I've overhauled many parts of the mod to introduce features that weren't originally planned, such as new NPCs and quests. I previously said there would be no new NPCs, but have since gone back to that stance. The mod still has a strong focus on exploration and combat, but I felt it was very lacking without character interaction and dialogue,” they said in a new post. “My original vision for the mod fell short as things started to 'finish', so I delayed the mod further while I worked on these features. As you can imagine, this added a huge amount of work to the project, but I was probably not happy with the original direction.”
The project is taking a significant amount of time, with the creators saying they've spent hundreds of hours “creating, testing and balancing” new items to be added to Act 2. They say, “It's really coming together, but we still have a long way to go until a playable version is ready!”
If you want regular news about the project, Squally posts videos on his YouTube channel and updates on his Patreon. This will certainly be one of the most exciting additions to Baldur's Gate since Larian is wrapping up work on the game.
