The Last Of Us is not over, creators tease

It seems like there's more story left in the world of The Last of Us. Following last September's teaser that “there's a lot more happening” in the as-yet-unannounced world of The Last of Us, Neil Druckmann seems to have doubled down on the future of the franchise.

Druckmann shared a concept sketch in 2003 via Instagram for “a game pitch about a man, his surrogate daughter, and their journey across a broken America.”

But what gets fans going is the caption that follows.

“It has been a difficult journey,” Druckmann wrote. “Thank you for everything, especially the few stops along the way.”

Now it's likely that Druckmann will talk about the remaining “stationary points” in his journey as a writer. But we live in a world full of hopes and theories, and the prevailing thought is that Druckmann has indirectly confirmed The Last of Us Part 3.

“That last line pretty much confirms part 3,” one fan wrote in the comments section.

The Last of Us Part 2 No Return Rev

There is no excuse for not casting a transgender actor to play Lev in The Last Of Us.

Cisgender woman Kyriana Kratter has been cast as trans character Lev in HBO's The Last Of Us.

If there is a The Last of Us Part 3, it probably won't appear for a while. Naughty Dog is currently in the midst of development on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. There were rumors that the game could be released in 2026, but insiders have disputed this. Either way, Druckmann is directing the title, so he definitely has his hands full.

Druckmann never fully confirmed TLOU anymore.

If Druckmann had posted this on Instagram a few months ago, many would have taken it as a sign that he was referencing HBO's live-action adaptation of The Last of Us. However, this post comes after Druckmann announced that he would be leaving the project before work on Season 3 began.

“Co-creating the show has been a career highlight,” Druckmann said in a statement at the time. “It has been an honor to executive produce, direct and write the past two seasons with Craig Mazin.”

The dent in everyone's hopes that there will be a Part 3 is that Druckmann himself can't guarantee it. Exactly a year ago, Druckmann was asked candidly about the possibility of more titles.

“There are no guarantees because so many stars have to align for there to be another thing, another thing, another project,” he said at the time.

This is the second high-profile case where Druckmann has refused to confirm any future TLOU content in any way.

“The only thing I would say is don’t assume there will be more ‘The Last of Us.’ There could be,” he said a year ago.

Maybe he changed his mind or maybe his post wasn't about The Last of Us. Only time will tell.
