At 7:15 p.m. on March 26, in Tokyo, a woman was stabbed at the Sunshine City Pokemon Center, a complex located in Higashi-ikebukuro, and 110 calls (Japanese version of 911) were made to the police. The Pokémon Center in question was the world-famous Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo, the largest of its kind and the chain's flagstone location.
Many bystanders and investigators reported an incident in which a young female employee in her 20s was stabbed while a man with a knife in both hands went on a rampage inside the store. After the attack, reports said the man swung the knife himself and slit his own throat.
Both the female Pokemon center employee and the attacker were found unconscious at the scene, but unfortunately both were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, according to Japanese media.
Woman and attacker dead in Pokemon Center stabbing
The incident is spreading across Japanese social media, with live footage appearing to be recorded outside a Pokémon Center. In the video above, several people can be seen running from the scene, staff can be seen guiding people to safety and parts of the store are upside down and dirty. There also appears to be a person lying in the distance, most likely the attacker, as he is wearing dark clothing. It's also worth noting that while this video appears to be legitimate, there is no hard evidence that this is footage from the scene itself.
According to Japanese media, it has not been confirmed whether the perpetrator and the victim knew each other. Some are speculating that the perpetrator may have been a stalker. All we know now is that a young woman's life was cut short when it should have been filled with joy and happiness, and that in itself is a tragedy.
