How to Beat Feral Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Stories 3
The Feral Nerscylla in Azuria is a tough customer, but you can beat it early on with the right tactics.
What are Invasive Monsters in Monster Hunter Stories 3?
Invasive Monsters are powerful monsters that have taken over an area that belonged to an endangered species. They are more powerful than other members of their species, and often use unique attributes and attacks that their species does not.
Players will find a total of 9 Invasive Monsters to defeat while playing through Monster Hunter Stories 3. When fought for the first time, players will need to meet a few conditions to force the Invasive Monster to retreat. They will retreat into Endangered Dens, which players can enter to find the egg of an endangered species.
The Invasive Monsters will be hibernating in these dens. When you’ve gathered your strength to fight them a second time, you can interact with them in the den to trigger a Decisive Battle and attempt to slay the monster.
Our guide focuses on the locations for each Invasive Monster and the conditions that must be met to defeat them for the first time. The Invasive Monsters included in this list are as follows:
- Invasive Yian Garuga
- Invasive Plesioth
- Invasive Sergios
- Invasive Arzuros
- Invasive Nerscylla
- Invasive Shogun Ceanataur
- Invasive Diablos
- Invasive Odogaron
- Invasive Khezu
How to Defeat Every Invasive Monster in Monster Hunter Stories 3
How to Defeat Invasive Yian Garuga
- Location: Azuria: Sunpetal Plains
- Requirements to defeat: N/A
- Element: Fire
- Attack Type: Technical
Players will naturally come across the Invasive Yian Garuga after setting up the first Campsite in Azuria. You’ll find it in the rocky area on the east side of Azuria.
Since the Invasive Yian Garuga is your first Invasive Monster, it isn’t too tough or difficult to beat. When it becomes enraged, it will begin preparing to unleash a heavy attack. All you need to do is focus all of your attacks on breaking its legs.
Breaking its legs before it has performed its powerful attack will cause the Invasive Yian Garuga to stumble and fall during its next attack. After falling, it will quickly fly away from the fight and retreat into an Endangered Den. Taking this egg back to the campsite and hatching it reveals that it belongs to the Rathian species.
How to Defeat Invasive Plesioth
- Location: Azuria: Mirror Lake
- Requirements to defeat: A Monstie with a fire attack.
- Element: Water
- Attack Type: Technical
The Invasive Plesioth is found in the hidden cavern on the northern edge of Mirror Lake. It will be swimming in a loop around the rock formation at the center of the cave.
The trick to defeating the Invasive Plesioth is using a Monstie with a Fire Element attack. At the start of the fight, your attacks will do nothing to this monster. All you need to focus on at this time is surviving any attacks the Invasive Plesioth makes.
When the Invasive Plesioth enters its enraged state, command your fire Monstie to perform a Fire Element attack on the Plesioth’s head. This can easily be done by having Ratha use the Savage Fireball skill. After committing this attack, the Plesioth will attempt a water-based attack, fail it, and retreat from the fight.
The Invasive Plesioth’s retreat will spawn a new Endangered Den in the same cave. Hatching the egg from this den will give you your first Lagiacrus Monstie.
How to Defeat Invasive Sergios
- Location: Azuria: Mirror Lake
- Requirements to defeat: A hammer with a skill that hits all enemies.
- Element: Non-Elemental
- Attack Type: Technical
To reach the Invasive Sergios, you’ll need to use one of the updrafts on Mirror Lake to fly onto the hill in the northwestern corner of Azuria. Walking towards the corner will lead players to a large clearing, where the Invasive Sergios can be seen running around.
Like other Invasive Monsties, your initial attacks will do nothing to the Invasive Sergios. You’ll want to focus solely on staying alive through evasive moves and increased defenses.
When the Sergios becomes enraged, its first move will be a regular skill that deals a lot of damage. What’s important in this state is when it uses its Invasive Quickening Roar skill to prepare for its Scale attack. This roar will cause a colored spark to appear in front of the Sergios, indicating the type of attack he will use.
The Sergios will use this attack as a head-to-head against you. You must use a hammer skill that hits all enemies with the type of attack that defeats his chosen type to win this head-to-head. For example, a blue spark appearing during this roar means that you must use a skill like Perfect Crush as a technical-type attack.
If you mess up the first time, you will have an immediate second chance to win this head-to-head. Winning it causes the Sergios to flee and create a new Endangered Den. The egg in this den belongs to the Astalos species.
How to Defeat Invasive Arzuros
- Location: Canalta Timberland: Blessing Hill
- Requirements to defeat: N/A
- Element: Non-Elemental
- Attack Type: Power
You’ll find the Invasive Arzuros at the southern border of Canalta Timberland. Since defeating it is part of the main story, following the orange objective markers will lead you straight to it.
Since the Invasive Arzuros is the second Invasive Monster you’ll fight while following the story, it doesn’t have any special requirements and is actually pretty easy to handle. The goal of this fight is to make the Invasive Arzuros use up all of its honey, causing it to retreat. This can easily be done by constantly taking out the allies it uses honey to summon.
Making the Invasive Arzuros retreat and following it to its Endangered Den will lead you to a Canyne egg. Returning to Sheparden with the egg in tow will allow you to hatch the first Canyne Monstie in a long time, who will become your first ground-diving Monstie.
How to Defeat Invasive Nerscylla
- Location: Canalta Timberland: Blessing Hill
- Requirements to defeat: Gunlance with the Wyvern Fire skill.
- Element: Non-Elemental
- Attack Type: Technical
The Invasive Nerscylla is found in the clearing on the southeastern border of Canalta Timberland. To reach it, players will need to jump across the river to a tall ledge. This ledge can easily be spotted by fast-traveling to the Catavan Stand at the Blessing Hill camp and walking east.
What makes the Invasive Nerscylla special is that it goes invisible, preventing attacks from hitting it. While the Nerscylla is invisible, you want to focus on making sure you have enough stamina to use your Gunlance’s Wyvern Fire skill. Use a ration or any other type of stamina-increasing item to get prepared as quickly as possible.
When the Invasive Nerscylla roars and becomes enraged, it will begin using its stronger attacks. What you’re waiting for is for the Invasive Nerscylla to specifically target you with a red line between the two of you on the battlefield. This red line indicates that it is about to use its Invasive Death Scissors skill, which will instantly knock out any target.
When this happens, use your Wyvern’s Fire skill on the Nerscylla. When it attacks, it will catch fire and run away from the battle. Follow it into its den to get a Nargacuga egg.
How to Defeat Invasive Shogun Ceanataur
- Location: Canalta Timberland: Frozen Grotto
- Requirements to defeat: Items or skills that greatly raise your defenses, preferably Mega Armorskin.
- Element: Water
- Attack Type: Power
The Invasive Shogun Ceanataur is found in a hidden second portion of the Frozen Grotto near the Howlinyowl Forest Lookout Point. Its entrance is hidden behind a waterfall in this area.
Before starting this fight, you’ll want to have items prepared that will greatly boost your defenses. Since you will need a lot of extra defense, Mega Armorskin is your best choice. You can find it in chests or by crafting it using the Mega Armorskin recipe.
The Mega Armorskin recipe is a reward for completing the third quest given by the young girl next to the Canalta Timberland Cataracts Campsite.
When the Invasive Shogun Ceanataur regrows its claws, it will focus on one member of your party. Immediately use the Mega Armorskin item on the targeted party member. When the Invasive Shogun Ceanataur attacks them, the attack will bounce, damaging the monster and causing it to retreat.
The monster’s retreat will create an Endangered Den in the cavern. Hatch the egg gathered from the den to get your first Mizutsune.
How to Defeat Invasive Diablos
- Location: Tarkuan: Colossal Dragon’s Remains
- Requirements to defeat: A hammer with a meteor skill; we used Meteor Hammer.
- Element: Non-Elemental
- Attack Type: Power
The Invasive Diablos is found in the southeastern corner of Tarkuan. To reach it, players should climb to the top of the Colossal Dragon’s remains and walk to the eastern edge. They can then fly east towards the border to land on a ledge that leads them to the area containing the Invasive Diablos.
Before heading towards the Invasive Diablos, make sure that one of your weapons is a Hammer with a meteor skill. We used Meteor Hammer, but any other powerful hammer skills with meteor in the name should work.
Like usual, the early portion of the Invasive Diablos fight is all about making sure you survive. You’ll also need to keep an eye on your stamina, as you’ll need to have enough to use your hammer’s meteor skill.
The most important moment in this fight is when the Invasive Diablos activates his Invasive Helical Ambush skill. This skill will have the Invasive Diablos move between three holes in the ground, indicated by rocks and dust coming out of each hole as the monster moves into it.
The goal here is to watch the Diablos movements, then time your Meteor Hammer to hit a hole when the Diablos passes through it. You must use the Speed attribute when attacking, or you will miss even if the Diablos is in the hole you selected.
Successfully defending against this attack will make the Invasive Diablos retreat. Follow it to its den to retrieve a Tigrex egg.
How to Defeat Invasive Odogaron
- Location: Tarkuan: Rococo Rocks
- Requirements to defeat: A Monstie that can inflict Mudbogged, like Almudron.
- Element: Non-Elemental
- Attack Type: Speed
The entrance to the area leading to the Invasive Odogaron is west of the Rococo Rocks Catavan Stand. If you jump from the edge of this platform and fly to the ledge in the west, you’ll just barely make it. To make things easier, you could fly south to the highest updraft in Rococo Rocks, then fly to the ledge from there.
Before heading to the Invasive Odogaron, make sure you have a Monstie that can inflict Mudbogged. The easiest Monstie to get for this is the Almudron. Any of its moves that say they will “set a trap that continuously deals water damage” will inflict Mudbogged on their target.
You will not be able to stop the Odogaron the first time it gets enraged and uses its Invasive Crimson Claws skill. From this moment on, the safest play is to keep the Invasive Odogaron Mudbogged as much as possible. You’ll particularly want to make sure it retains this status affect when the words “focus on attacking the claws!” appear on screen.
While Mudbogged, the Odogaron’s Invasive Crimson Claws skill will turn into Crimson Claws (No Fire). It will attempt to attack using its skill twice. Once both of those attempts are thwarted because it is Mudbogged, the Invasive Odogaron will flee.
The egg found in this Endangered Den belongs to the Zinogre species.
How to Defeat Invasive Khezu
- Location: Serathis: Glacial Caps
- Requirements to defeat: Paraheal Powder, or other items that cure and prevent Paralysis.
- Element: Thunder
- Attack Type: Technical (Normal); Power (Angry)
The Invasive Khezu is located in the clearing to the right of the Glacial Caps campsite. To reach this area, you’ll want to climb to the top of the Glacial Caps Lookout Point and fly toward the clearing. You’ll want to aim to land on one of the taller pillars of land that do not have ice on them. You’ll need to hop between these pillars to reach the clearing containing the Invasive Khezu.
Before starting the Invasive Khezu fight, you’ll want to make sure you’re carrying items that cure Paralysis and grant Negate Paralysis. Defeating the Invasive Khezu requires players to attack together with their Monstie, making the fight difficult to win when party members are paralyzed. You may also want to eat a meal that increases your Kinship Gauge because you will need to perform a Kinship Skill during a specific part of the fight.
The goal of the first part of the fight is to prevent your team from becoming paralyzed and using Double Attacks. When the Invasive Khezu is going to cast Thunder Zone and paralyze your team, Rudy will give you a heads-up so that you can use an item to protect your team.
When the words Wyvern Charge Complete appear on-screen, the Khezu will attempt to do a head-to-head versus either you or your Monstie. Your goal here is to beat this head-to-head using a Double Attack. The Khezu will use Power attacks while in this state, so you’ll need to hit it with a Speed Double Attack.
When the Invasive Khezu has been whittled down by your Double Attacks, your party members will begin talking about how it looks to be in pain. This will start the next portion of the fight.
After another turn or two, the words Learning Complete will appear on the screen, and Rudy will mention that the Khezu is acting like it knows your next moves. For the final part of this fight, you will need to perform a Kinship skill when indicated to on the screen. This could be a phrase like “Can the Power of Kinship stop it?” or a phrase about trying something new to stop the Khezu.
When that phrase appears on the screen, immediately attack the Invasive Khezu with your Kinship Skill. The battle will seemingly continue as if nothing has happened, but the Khezu will fail its next attack and run away to an Endangered Den. The egg retrieved from this Invasive Monster’s den is a Barioth.
