The bow is one of the oldest weapons in the world and one of the original weapons in the Monster Hunter series. Monster Hunter Story 3.
Here, the bow builds up a charge with each attack, but can also apply coatings for additional effectiveness without loss. Used correctly, it's a win-win weapon, and some of the best features the game has to offer include:
Tigrex Archer – Tigrex
-
numb coating
-
flash coating
-
exhaust coating
-
Defense down coating
After discovering the endangered Tigrex and fighting them in the wild, you gain access to all the weapons you can craft from their parts, and that weapon is very powerful, albeit a bow first and foremost.
The Tigrex Archer has very high damage, a Wyvernfell stat of 35, and a single cosmetic slot. However, because the coating covers such a large area, it piles on the enemy with debuffs, leaving them with no means of counterattacking.

We have to go quickly!
Rebel Bow – Deviljho
-
poison coating
-
flash coating
-
Defense down coating
Deviljho can first be found and tamed in Canalta Timberland if you can beat it using Paintball. But it's worth it because the weapons they provide are top notch by the end of the game.
The Rebel Bow deals dragon damage and has the highest attack stat in the game, with a high Wyvernfell stat of 35. The coating on these bows also helps weaken prey before delivering a fatal strike.
Veldian Arkum – Arkveld
-
Accuracy Down Coating
-
Avoid down coating
After first appearing in Monster Hunter Wilds and finding its own unique use for the Wyvernsoul Gauge here, Arkveld has a weapon designed to be used in any way you want, allowing you to shed some light on its capabilities before adding it yourself.
One of the most powerful bows with a max dragon damage of 170 and a decent Wyvernfell of 25, the Veldian Arcum comes with three cosmetic slots to do with as you please, while the base coating makes it harder for enemies to hit you and easier for you to hit.
Diablos Coilbender – Diablos
-
exhaust coating
-
Attack down coating
-
Avoid down coating
Diablos are everyone's fear in every game they appear in, and although they are less threatening here, their weapons still show how much potential power they wield.
Diablos Coilbender only comes with one cosmetic slot, but its normal damage is 160 and its Wyvernfell stats are high at 35. However, it also grants 15 extra armor and the coating will tire out enemies, making them easier to take down.
Thunderbolt Bow – Thunder Serpent Gnarwa
-
numb coating
-
sleep coating
-
flash coating
After you defeat Ibushi and Narwa for the first time, you can use their weapons. Most of these were made from Ibushi parts, but one very special weapon came from Narwa.
The Thunderbolt Bow has the highest damage of all bows at 178 Thunder damage, but its Wyvernfell stats are relatively low at 15 and it only has one cosmetic slot. In other words, the coatings all apply powerful status effects to enemies, making it easier to block their attacks from hitting you.
Gray Fury – Glavenus
-
bleed coating
-
Power coating
Aside from the Honed version at the beginning, Glavenus appears most consistently on Tarkuan and also benefits endgame content by giving you immediate access to some of the most powerful weapons in the game.
The Ashen Wrath Bow is a great all-round bow. Fire damage 164, Wyvern Fell 15, 2 decoration slots. Coatings are purely used to increase the damage you and your allies deal, helping you easily surpass the base damage stat.
Glacier Arrow – Legiana
-
sleep coating
-
bleed coating
-
Attack down coating
Legiana is very rare, occurring naturally in small numbers in the glacier caps of Cerradis. However, the weapons they provide are suitably powerful once you hunt them enough.
Glacial Arrow deals 164 ice damage and gives you 15 Wyvernfell and a single cosmetic slot. It might not be outrageously surprising, but the enhanced coating weakens enemy attacks and can even put them to sleep.
Hydra Planula – Namiel
-
numb coating
-
bleed coating
-
Power coating
-
Accuracy Down Coating
Namiel itself can deal both water and thunder damage, but the weapon falls purely into the former category. However, they retain some of the oddities of the monsters from which they came.
Hydra Planula offers very good water damage and 15% critical strike chance, but lacks cosmetic slots. You can support this with four different coatings, giving you strength and weakening your enemies.
Dragon Solar Bow – Yama Tsukami
-
numb coating
-
sleep coating
-
Power coating
-
Defense down coating
Yama Tsukami is strange when it comes to Elder Dragons. Not only do they fight in two different locations, but their weapons, including bows, are equally strange.
The Dragon Solar Bow has no cosmetic slots at all, but has a very high normal damage stat of 170 and a good Wyvernfell of 25. This is overcome with a mix of coatings, status effects, and stat-lowering effects, allowing you to deal with any situation.
Iceflinger – Velkhana
-
numb coating
-
Power coating
Velkhana is one of the easiest Elder Dragons if you know how to handle it, making stocking up on materials for weapons and armor much easier. Their gear is great because it is one of the most powerful gear in the game.
The Iceflinger Bow comes with 174 Ice damage, one of the highest, plus 25 Wyvernfell and 2 cosmetic slots. The beauty of this is that it's only two coatings, but you can easily add more using the free decoration slots.
