Slay The Spire 2 Fans Are Worried That Silent Is Too Overwhelming

Slay the Spire 2 has been released. That's some pretty impressive numbers. At least enough to accidentally embarrass Bungie's Marathon anyway. All of this is to say that despite the game being in Early Access, like most games in development, Slay the Spire 2 seems to need some major tweaks.

This is according to one Slay the Spire veteran who came across Reddit's JapaneseExport, who claims to have played 10,000 hours of the original (thanks to GamesRadar) and is one of the top five players in the world. Essentially, this is the opinion of someone who knows what he's talking about, and he thinks one of the characters in Slay the Spire 2 is currently “very worried.”

Silent seems to need some tweaking, but it's all Sly's fault.

In a recent post on the Slay the Spire subreddit, the Japanese exporter explained that he played Slay the Spire 2 several times to see what the card balance was like this time around and what he could do with some tweaks. With the game in early access, feedback from its large fan base will undoubtedly be essential for MegaCrit to keep the game balanced.

At the same time, Slay The Spire 2 completely baked bungee on Twitter after passing the marathon.

“Don’t pass up these little indie passion projects.”

Based on their findings, JapaneseExport is particularly worried about the character Silent, who they declare is “hands down the most powerful character” in the game right now, and they think any decent Slay the Spire 2 player could pick her up and probably succeed with little trouble.

“Silent's discard cards and early damage cards are too powerful,” says JapaneseExport. “If you have good damage cards, it’s okay to skip most rewards.”

Silent's strength appears to be due to its ability called Sly, which allows players to automatically use cards they discard. This is a strategy that is currently so unsuccessful that it doesn't really make sense to use any other strategy. It basically forces the player to follow a specific path using Silent and makes their character much more one-dimensional.

“The numbers need to be adjusted to encourage different strategies to shine,” JapaneseExport wrote. “It feels like every run leads me to the same place, and Spire 1's core ability lies in a game that still trivializes many encounters.”

Thankfully for Slay the Spire 2, the game is in Early Access, so MegaCrit is in a position to make some pretty big changes if they need to. With people like JapaneseExport providing feedback of this magnitude, we can be absolutely sure that Slay the Spire 2 is in pretty good hands, and many are hoping that the game will be another masterpiece.
