The KOTOR Remake was announced five years ago, and since then all we've heard (barring a changing developer) has been vague, clichéd talk about it still being a thing. Just yesterday, Saber Interactive's Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits once again assured us that it's “still in development,” but couldn't tell us anything. Fortunately, the leaker can.
YouTuber and reputable KOTOR remake leaker 100% Star Wars responded to Willits' comments and the doubts surrounding them, claiming to have seen the footage and assuring that things are going smoothly. In fact, they claimed that if all goes well, the remake could be released again later this year.
All I can say is that I think they are doing things right overall.
“I saw Saber's KOTOR remake… and I'm very impressed with most of what they're making,” they posted on X. “Having seen both, I think it was the right decision to cancel the Saber remake of Aspyr from the beginning. If all goes well, it could be released this year…”
The KOTOR remake was “much more action-oriented,” with combat similar to the original Jedi: Fallen Order and a Final Fantasy 7-style timer.
Other than leaked concept art, we haven't seen anything about the original project, and the only thing that really gave us a clue was what Kashyyyk would have looked like Kashyyyk. However, 100% Star Wars claims to have details on the combat, claiming that “the remake of Aspyr was much more action-oriented.”
“I liken it to a poor man’s Fallen Order with the FF7 pause mechanism,” they explained in their reply. “But I can’t tell you about Saber, but you can read this however you want.”
The emphasis on 'was' is an interesting point, but it's still unclear how exactly the combat has changed and what Saber's version of the KOTOR remake will look like. As for Sony's involvement (remember, this was announced at State of Play), 100% Star Wars doesn't know if they're still involved, but “my feeling is no.”
