It presented an incredibly dense and beautiful world, one of the best and most profound interpretations of 5th edition. D&D It has a video game-style gameplay system, memorable music, a thrilling story, and of course, unique NPCs, companions, and original characters that continue to fascinate fans to this day. Each character has a unique aesthetic and personality, making some characters quickly become popular. For example, Karlach and Shadowheart are the top choices for many people.
Baldur's Gate 3: All Romanceable Characters
There are a total of 10 romance options in Baldur's Gate 3, each of which is a unique companion that players can get close to.
Each character has its own characteristics. They will react to your actions with approval or disapproval rather than just pushing them away. Eventually, some people may leave your camp if they find you sufficiently heinous for your actions. This character depth is precisely why it can be fun to conduct a little thought experiment about who the worst roommate of all the companion characters would be. Personality, values, and character arc play a big role in determining this, but ultimately it depends on what kind of Tav (or original character) you're playing. This is just for fun, but let's analyze who might have put a knife to your throat on the first night you shared a room at an inn.
Shadow Heart
She may share at your expense, depending on what she chooses.
Starting with the smallest criminal, we have Shadowheart. She may not be the worst person to share a room with, but at least at the beginning of the trip. Baldur's Gate 3She is very cold and distant. She also has a firm belief in the goddess Shar, who is not exactly known to be the most benevolent being in the world. The way she talks about her goddess can be downright creepy at times, especially in the first half of the game. She doesn't tolerate any doubt or criticism of her beliefs, which makes you walk on eggshells around yourself if you don't want to upset her.
Depending on which path you take after meeting Nightsong, she may become a more dangerous person. In Act 3, when faced with the Mirror of Loss, it is possible for Shadowheart to choose a rather depressing and harrowing path, completely refusing freedom from Shar's clutches. Imagine having that version of her as your roommate. Can you still tell yourself that you can fix her? One day you may not wake up, perhaps with a sacrificial knife stuck in your throat.
Halsin
The smell may be different
Halsin is definitely not a bad person. Personality-wise, he was a great roommate, but it's important to remember that he's a druid who's likely to spend a lot of time in the wilderness, either in human or wild form. So imagine the kind of smells and dust he could be attracting into a communal living environment. Not to mention, depending on his preferences, he might want to run around in bear form. Not only does the bear form take up a lot of space, but it also likely has its own scent profile.
Other than that, Halsin seems like an easy person to live with, perfectly embodying the gentle giant stereotype of a good, down-to-earth guy who only likes ducks. If you know, you know. That means he might be wearing too-good-to-be-true shoes or he'll be quick to call you out on anything he considers morally gray. Halsin is likely to stand firmly on the Chaotic Good alignment, so anything that leans more toward neutrality or evil will not be acceptable to him.
Astarion
It's a far cry from being a Twilight-style vampire boyfriend.
Astarion is not an easy person to be around. His morality is questionable to say the least, understandable considering his somewhat challenging background, but even in the game he is a threat to the player character while he is resting in camp. One of the game's cutscenes shows him vying for the jugular with his teeth out, which unnerves everyone in the camp. You can send him away, kill him, or accept him as is. Given that he's essentially preying on you, it's not unreasonable to decide not to trust him.
His character arc is a long and arduous one. Baldur's Gate 3. For most of the game, he does not reveal his true face and intentions to the player. When Tav (or whoever you're playing as) chooses to act like a hero and help those in need, he even has his moments of mockery. Because it is not in his nature to behave this way, he would be an unreliable and potentially dangerous roommate. If you don't win his heart with thoughtfulness and understanding, you'll struggle to know whether he's secretly waiting to stab you in the back and have a drink, or if he's actually interested in you.
Laezel
The Githyanki believe only in strength through supremacy.
Of all the original characters, Lae'zel is the most difficult to deal with. At the start of the game, her belief in the superiority of her race is unshakable and she considers everyone around her to be inferior. Anyone who isn't a Githyanki roommate can easily become her slave or pawn. Even if it's something similar to a pet that she will never respect equally. That is, unless you prove yourself. It is only through great challenges and several plot twists and events that Lae'zel slowly begins to doubt the foundations of her nation, and perhaps even softens.

One of the best examples of why she is a terrible roommate is her fight with Shadowheart. She likes to argue and have the last word. And if she can't have the last word, she'll use the blade instead. Her romance plot pits you against her in her camp, and can only develop if you can beat her in a one-on-one fight. Imagine coming home after a long day. The ideal way to spend quality time with her is to let your fists speak for themselves. Despite her great confidence and aura, Lae'zel will eventually become an extremely exhausting person to share space with.
Mintara
The drow are forever merciless
The Githyanki are not the only race in this world. D&D A universe known for its cruelty and brutal traditions. The Drow of the Underdark, especially those who worship Lolth, are known for maintaining a horribly harsh matriarchal society that claims glory and honor through force and treachery alone. This is a society where blood ties turn against blood ties, and I applaud that approach. Minthara was born into such an environment, and although she may belong to the absolute cult and eventually move away from it, she never completely sheds her ruthlessness. Even though there are vulnerable moments that make her incredibly deep and relatable, it's thoroughly baked into her.
She is an untrustworthy person whose loyalty will take a very long time to win out. And yet, can we really be sure that she hasn't decided to execute us because she doesn't find us worthy of following and respecting us? If you're too nice, too weak in her eyes, and don't assert yourself enough, you might end up being more of her doormat than an equal roommate. But between her and Lae'zel, she may be the riskier choice because of how she got sucked into the Absolute Cult and was ready to destroy an entire druid forest without batting an eye. Meanwhile, Lae'zel would have simply refused to help the Grove if the choice had been up to her.
