In a bittersweet and hopeful moment, Ash decides to support his friend, but wants a rematch even though Pikachu will never evolve. So the two decided to focus on speed-based attacks instead, and their plan worked brilliantly. Their victory makes Pikachu's decision to become whatever he wants all the sweeter.

In fact, Ash's friend Brock, who usually cooks meals for the traveling party, asks Todd for the recipe because it's so delicious.
As the heroes get to know Todd, they quickly discover that although he is a great chef, his true passion is photography. In fact, he wants to take a picture of Pikachu eating pancakes. After an action-packed adventure in Grampa Canyon, Ash leaves the place with the only Pokémon egg he found there. Everyone, including Team Rocket, wanted the Pokémon eggs, especially after they hatched into the rare Pokémon Togepi. After the battle tournament, Ash was declared the winner. However, Togepi chose Misty as his trainer and caretaker because he first saw Misty when she hatched from an egg.
Although Misty took on the role of Togepi's parent, the rest of the party also pitched in to care for the baby Pokémon. One such Pokémon was Pikachu, which became similar to the Spike Ball Pokémon's older brother. Because Togepi is a baby, he tends to wander and get into trouble, which is a concern for Pikachu. To his surprise, Pikachu chases after him with a smile on his face, supported by other Pikachus. Ash is overjoyed when Pikachu returns, and the two embrace after the rat Pokémon leaps into his arms.

Pikachu loved the pancakes that photographer Todd Snap made for him, but that love certainly pales in comparison to his love for ketchup. In the episode “Showdown at Dark City”, Ash and his friends are surprised to discover that there are two Discord gyms in the desolate desert town of Dark City. The most shocking thing is that the town's citizens hate Pokémon trainers because the gyms tend to recruit traveling trainers into their evil battles. Thankfully, after Ash and his group find out they have nothing to do with the gym leaders, a local restaurant owner serves the heroes a meal while telling them about the Dark City's dilemma.
Meanwhile, Pikachu happily carries a bottle of ketchup in his hand wherever he goes. Even though Team Rocket, Kaz Gym, and Yasu Gym are causing more trouble for the heroes and citizens, Pikachu still brings along his beloved ketchup bottle. Unfortunately, Yasu's scythe cuts the ketchup bottle in two pieces, destroying Pikachu. However, the legacy of the ketchup bottle lives on through the heroes' later plans to use the condiment as a way to fool Scyther in the Yas Gym and Electabuzz in the Kaz Gym.
