Remember when Nintendo revealed it was reviving the Virtual Boy and adding games to the Switch and Switch 2? It turns out it wasn't a joke. The equipment needed to play those games is now available for pre-order in time for the opening of NSO's Virtual Boy wing next month. Even better, as part of Nintendo's pre-order announcement it was revealed that two yet-to-be-released Virtual Boy games will eventually be added to the collection.
you're right. Despite the Virtual Boy's incredibly limited roster, Nintendo has found a way to stagger add-ons to NSO, just like it does with all the other Virtual Consoles available through the service. There are seven Virtual Boy games to choose from. When the system joins NSO on February 17, 2026, You can see them all below.

Two unreleased virtual boy games are coming to NSO
The promise of upcoming games has given Virtual Boy games a staggered release schedule an edge. There will almost certainly be Virtual Boy games that were eventually available on the original hardware available from NSO, but the original Mario Tennis is missing from the launch lineup. The only two additions Nintendo promised as supplements to this initial batch are games that were never released at all.
Screenshots of unreleased platformer Mario Smash have been discovered 30 years after its cancellation.
Due to the failure of Virtual Boy, the game was canceled and no official name was released.
Those are the games that have people willing to invest in Dragon Hopper and the most exciting Zero Racers, Virtual Boy. Zero Racers is an F-Zero racing game that never saw the light of day. More than two decades later, we've finally had a chance to play it, and at a time when we're starving for a new F-Zero game with no end in sight to the drought.
A new F-Zero game in 2026 (yes, that's a thing)
Zero Racers was a game completed in the mid-90s. It had an ESRB rating and everything. But by the time it was done, Virtual Boy had already failed. The same applies to Dragon Hopper. Nintendo, the unsung king of keeping finished games on the shelf until they find the perfect time to release them to the world, has truly outdone themselves. Two Virtual Boy games that have been gathering dust for two decades are set to become playable before the end of 2026.
This technically means that we'll be playing an entirely new entry in the F-Zero series this year for the first time since 2004's F-Zero Climax. Sure, the game is finished and ready to be released on consoles four generations ago, and you'll need expensive accessories and an NSO subscription to play it, but it's still happening. You can't take that away from us.
