However, this is easier said than done, as adventurers avoid forming close relationships with others after seeing so many people die in battle. Moreover, Li Rui may be cute at first glance, but she is actually not what she seems.
Although the series includes a lot of RPG-style adventure, dungeon exploration, and monster battles, the real focus is on Hajime and Rirui's relationship, and to a lesser extent, many of the other people in the village. The first episode makes it very clear that a man who spent his childhood sleeping in the gutter and scavenging for scraps of food has many demons to face. He's not exactly what you'd call “father material,” but watching him grow into his new role is one of the main appeals of the series. His old friend Veronica, who runs a store in town, is also excited about what the future holds, but Olive, a high-ranking member of the local guild, quickly becomes concerned after seeing what happened the first night Hajime brought the young girl home.
