First Berserker: Kazan Preview – Cell Shaded Soullike Even If Developers Don't Want It
“This game has some obvious Souls DNA, but you could end up with a weird, messy hybrid that doesn’t do anything.”
With the success of the series in Asian markets, and the imminent release of The First Berserker: Khazan, a Soulslike game set in the DNF universe, franchise creators are eager to capitalize on this. Khazan creative director Junho Lee revealed in an exclusive interview with TheGamer that Neople is working on an anime, manga, and novel for Dungeon & Fighter.
Dungeon & Fighter spin-off is released
Discussing the reach of the Dungeon & Fighter world with us at TheGamer, Lee said that the team behind The First Berserker: Khazan “started development with the premise that there would be more users who didn't know about Dungeon & Fighter.” “I’m a fighter rather than a fighter.”
“So in the early days of development, our goal was to ensure that more people could enjoy it as much as we did. “The whole idea was to attract more users and people who like console action games,” he added.
However, while the team is aware that it does not have full global appeal, they have full confidence in the franchise and have cited it as the biggest inspiration for Khazan over the FromSoftware games. Because of that confidence, Lee said, “Not only that, but I'm also working on books, animations, and comics.”
He couldn't share any more details, but this marks Korean developer Neople's second attempt to tap into the animation and comics market. In 2009, the company released a Dungeon & Fighter spinoff, Slap-up Party: Arad Senki. The adaptation was produced as a 26-episode animation and a manga.
