Nintendo likes to do random things without warning, and abruptly stopping the Switch 2 update for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD fits that description. The remastered Switch game looks better, it now has Dixie Kong, and best of all, it appears to have fixed the issues that have plagued the game since the launch of the Nintendo 3DS port.
Donkey Kong Country Returns was originally released on the Nintendo Wii and was pretty great. It's now good enough to be effectively ported to the three latest Nintendo consoles. However, the first port that brought the game to the 3DS essentially broke the game's multiplayer features.
Donkey Kong Country Returns has had major co-op issues since the 3DS release.
When playing DKC Returns HD with a second player, attempting a chain jump will cause one of you to fall through the second enemy. This means you can't jump between enemies without touching the ground first, which in some cases made the game unplayable as you had to chain jump between enemies to get to the next platform.
I'm annoyed that it was an issue in the first place, even more annoyed that it wasn't fixed at all on the 3DS, and I'm absolutely outraged that this problem persists in the Switch remaster anyway. Well, not anymore. Because there's evidence that the chain jumping issue that has plagued Donkey Kong Country Returns for over a decade has finally been resolved.

After a few years, it looks like DK Country Returns' Co-Op Faux Pas has been modified.
In a clip shared by CottrelloVision showing the newly added Dixie Kong in action, DK and his two fighters can be seen bouncing on one enemy and seamlessly chain jumping onto the next. It's exactly what you expected. However, if you try to do so before today's Shadow update goes live, you'll be able to get right through to whoever last attacked the enemy.
If the clip is any indication of what it looks like, the update finally fixes an issue that DK fans have been asking Nintendo to fix for years. The backlash from discovering bugs on the Switch is long gone. Because a whole new Donkey Kong game has been released since then.
Despite fixing the issues and adding Dixie to the mix, not everyone who owns a Switch 2 is optimistic about the unexpected update. Despite fixing a 13-year-old issue, many people are asking why Donkey Kong Country Returns is getting the Switch 2 update treatment when so many other games are still waiting.
Well, they might not be waiting in line. The Xenoblade Chronicles game is the one Switch 2 owners would most like to receive an update for, and Nintendo has absolutely no plans to do so. That said, there's been no indication that DK Country Returns will also receive a Switch 2 update, and it happened on a random Wednesday, so don't give up hope.
