Shiny hunting has been going on for almost as long as the Pokémon series has existed, but it's not always easy. The odds of early game were 1 in 8192 compared to today's 1 in 4096, and there weren't necessarily any special ways to hunt them quickly. This made SHINee feel even more special.
Over time, Game Freak has introduced new ways for players to hunt these elusive Pokemon, reducing the odds along the way, and Pokemon Legends: ZA's Mega Dimension DLC takes things to the next level. While it's good news for many, these changes have confused some in the Shiny Hunting community and made them feel like their hard work in previous games was in vain.
Aside from a few very awkward methods up to Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, players stuck to the default 1/8192 scale. Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum introduce the Masuda Method, a popular breeding method, and the Poke Radar, which can reduce the odds to 1/638 and 1/200 respectively.
Black and White came along and further reduced the Masuda Method odds, while Black and White 2 introduced Shiny Charm. Ultra Sun and Moon drastically reduced the likelihood of sparkling legendary encounters and continued the spiral to where we are today by combining the Mega Dimension's Shiny Charm, Sparkling Power, and refreshing ease of creation, proving the perfect catalyst for abundant sparkles. This has become a divisive issue among players.
Since the release of Mega Dimension, several threads have appeared on the Legends ZA subreddit, with players showing off their shiny howls. A recent thread included a video of a player running through the Hyperspace Wild Zone with seven shiny dragon-type Pokémon (including three alphas) visible within the first nine seconds. This has become the perfect breeding ground for division.
One New Legendary: ZA Mega Dimension Mega Evolution Is The Most Unsettling Pokémon Ever
Literally a nightmare.
A thread created by Mean_Violinist5759 was titled “Disgusting how easy they made glow hunting”, and that's not particularly wrong. “Yeah, no more flex,” one player said, while another added, “I really liked the shiny hunt. I always remember to reset it to regidrago.”
Although some expressed dissatisfaction, many comments were overwhelmingly in favor of this new method. “I’m having a lot of fun because they’ve always been out of my reach,” Manditobandito said. Another netizen added: “Thank god. I've never had time for glow hunting in my life. This is finally going to be fun for me.”
This ultimately leads DryBones907 to comment on RNG for making donuts, saying, “There's still a long way to go, and there are many more steps beyond the Pokemon themselves.”
I have never had time for glow hunting in my life. Finally this is going to be fun for me.
Personally, I completely agree with this improved polishing speed. This is one of the reasons Legends: Arceus resonated with me so much, and I'm having a great time wasting my evenings making donuts and investigating the Hyperspace Wild Zone. It's a little disappointing that I spent so much time creating the now-defunct spawn overlords or searching for items like Froakie and Fennekin in the base game. But for now, I'm just being stupid, but it definitely feels more rewarding to get multiple glowing in an hour than potentially getting zero over several hours.
