Fate of the Old Republic will be released before 2030, Lead says.

Just one night after the collective Internet was set on fire with the reveal of a new Star Wars title set in the era of the Old Republic and led by none other than RPG legend Casey Hudson, the main cast is helping put out a separate fire related to its planned release window.

Hudson took to Twitter to make it very clear that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic (FOTOR, as all the cool kids call it) will be released before 2030. This is the window many people used in response to the game's sudden announcement.

I'm not getting any younger!

His response appears to have been directed at veteran gaming journalist Jason Schreier. He noted in a separate post on Bluesky that the studio's recent formation has led him to optimistically speculate that FOTOR could come out in 2030.

Last night's biggest surprise was Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, helmed by Casey Hudson, who directed KOTOR (and Anthem). This is exciting news for many… but Lucasfilm has revealed that the studio was founded this year. This means 2030 is an *optimistic* guess. Maybe it'll be a PlayStation 7 game — Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier.bsky.social) 2025-12-12T16:30:44.271Z

As Schreier further noted in his response to his post, Wonder Woman was also a game that had a big spot at The Game Awards, but was ultimately cancelled. Others also noted the many games that debuted with big-budget cinematics but never saw the light of day.

Star Wars Outlaws Nintendo Switch 2 Review

Don't be afraid to play Star Wars Outlaws on Nintendo Switch 2.

Ubisoft Red Lynx has created a special version of Star Wars Outlaws for Nintendo Switch 2.

And if there's one thing Star Wars fans, especially Star Wars video game fans, know, it's that sometimes things look and sound too good to be true.

Luck isn't on Star Wars' side either, so don't blame people for losing hope.

Hudson's statement is a very bold statement. Especially considering that the team behind the game, Arcanaut Studios, is only a few months old. As we all know, GameDev is a rather complex process that is very expensive and involves many shifts.

With this in mind, 2030 feels especially generous given that we are already inching closer to 2026. That leaves only a small gap in time for a big-budget game that will undoubtedly jump through many IP hoops before release.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks of 1313 sometimes. As a Star Wars fan, it breaks my heart to think about what could have happened.

Fortune also hasn't been on Star Wars' side in recent years. Both 1313 and a separate Mandalorian-based first-person shooter were canceled, and news about Star Wars: Eclipse and Knights of the Old Republic remakes disappeared.

Never mind, Hudson seems to have a lot of faith in his team and their ability to deliver. Time will ultimately tell whether that is true. Let's hope this bucks the trend of ill-fated Star Wars titles.
