With the launch of its own game store, Epic needed to do something to differentiate itself from the behemoth that is Steam. One way to do this and keep doing it is to give away free games every week. To claim and keep your game without any additional cost or subscription required, you'll need to visit the Epic Games Store to get your game.
Over the past few years, Epic has taken things a step further in free-to-play games during the holidays, and they're doing it again this year. If Epic follows the same pattern it's used in the past, they'll start things off with a giveaway of one game for a week before switching out free games every day over the Christmas period and into the New Year.
It's not a game you've typically heard of, but even if you've heard of it, you might want to give it a try. They are free. The worst thing that can happen is you play it for an hour or two and decide you don't like it. Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Control, Sifu, and Vampire Survivors will be available for free in 2024. Check back here regularly if you want some free games this Christmas. Because once something goes wrong, the free games will only be free for 24 hours.
Hogwarts Legacy (December 11 – December 18)
Epic usually kicks off its Christmas giveaways with a big game, and this year is no different. Hogwarts Legacy, one of the best-selling games in recent history, is available to claim and keep for free right now through the Epic Games Store, as long as you're reading this. Before 4:00 PM EST on December 18, 2025. Hogwarts Legacy allows you to live out your Harry Potter fantasies and immerse yourself in a world of magic. Epic is currently offering the game for free, so you can become a Hogwarts student and get in without having to pay the regular admission fee.
All games will be released on PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium in December 2025
It lists all the games added to Essential, Extra, and Premium and the dates when they can be played for free.
Hogwarts Legacy is available for free until Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 3:59 PM EST. Other free games will then take their place, perhaps kicking off the daily free game portion of Epic's annual holiday giveaway.
